Significant Achievement and Failure

Money is to the root of all evil as failure is to the root of all true success. The main goal of every person is to succeed, right? But true success does not come without failure. Success takes hard work, intelligence, humility, and failure leads to all three of these things. You must first fail to succeed. This essay will discuss my significant achievement and failure in relation to my profession, academic, and social life.

Achievement, on one hand in my profession, can be dated back to 2014, when I newly join an outsourcing firm for the oil and gas sector. The management decided to add a new person, base on the need that both the contract and business development department had no back-up. So, after securing employment, I was working in both the contract and business development department. Eight months after employment, the head of the department in business development resigned, a month later, all the team in the recruitment resign. Furthermore, I was asked to deputise for the recruitment department, and also still perform my contract and business development functions. It took the company a month to secure a suitable person for the recruitment department, again I was asked to put the person through the recruitment process with our various clients. To buttress further, one year down the line, we are able to increase the company’s personnel base by 25%, and the business development department secures two new contracts from both Nigeria LNG and West African Ventures.

Failure, on the other hand, was when I was in First City Monument Bank (FCMB), I was employed as a platform office a graduate trainee. I was responsible for initiating foreign exchange (FX) transfer, working as a back-up officer for the marketers. Firstly, the company had contract staffs that work with each marketer, who mostly are responsible for picking up bulk cash from reputable customers for bulk counting till the next day for proper counting and documentation in respective customer accounts. Furthermore, on this faithful day, I was asked by the branch manager to put up bulk cash from a customer, because most of the contract staff are not available. I went there, without asking the procedure of how is being done, pick up the bulk cash, and head to the office. When the counting was done the second day, the customer complains of missing bulk of twenty thousand nairas (NGN 20,000.00). I was summoned by a panel headed by the operation manager. After much investigation from myself and the person that handed over the cash to me, it was discovered that the other person knew I was new and did not know the guideline, decided to withhold the missing amount, but later present the cash.

In conclusion, failure is also the root of hard work, experiencing failure motivates hard work and dedication.
