Jesus emphasizes that fasting must be carried out sincerely, with a humble spirit, and without any desire for attention from others. It is a private act of devotion between the person and God, with the conviction that God will honor such self-reflective commitment.

The Bible encourages Christians to fast sincerely, abstaining from pretense, and seeking God’s favor via private devotion.
