Reading has never been a thing for me unless when of course it is necessary that I do. In times of examinations, assignments and research work. Ordinarily, I felt nonchalant about the art of reading, even though I admire those who mention reading of books as one of their hobbies and always want to see myself saying “I love to read books”. That moment never came because I kept procrastinating the day to instill the habit of reading in my life. Lately, I have been introduced to a new and life changing activity that I find both knowledgeable and recreational.
I encountered this amazing achievement during one of my sessions at the Lagos Business School; “management communication”. Along the line of learning, I joined a book club a few months ago and it has been nothing short of amazing. First, it came as a challenge to me, as almost all my classmates were registering for the club, I said to myself Judith! “The time has come” “the time is now “. At that moment, I registered without any hesitation.
One factor that motivated me to join the club was the kind of books that was read, they were self-help books and spiritual. These books are aimed at personal development (I have always wanted to be better and do better). One of the books I have read since I joined the club is THE GAME OF LIFE AND HOW TO PLAY IT BY Florence Scovel Shinn. In as much as I am an affirmative person, this book made me understand that there are rules to life, and one must not live life carelessly. It described life as a game and there are rules to the game of life just as how rules are ascribed to other games like football, basketball, tennis, golf etc.
Another one that struck me was the book titled HOW TO GET WHAT YOU WANT by Wallace D Wattles. This book gave me further insight from what the first one did. It made me understand how life works, how to shape your mind to being positive and assertive, to be able to control your subconscious and objective mind, to know exactly what you want and go for it. To be limitless.
The reason for writing this is to express how reading has broadened my thoughts and my perception of life. I have had so much of learning, unlearning and relearning to do in such a short period of time. The book club have also put me in check, I am able to make good use of my spare time for something worthy. It has made me accountable in the sense that I have to read and tell how the book has impacted me. Now, I anticipate the title of the next book in the month and how it is going to reshape my life and thoughts. My lifelong dream of adding reading to one of my hobbies has finally come to reality. I can proudly say I read one book every month. I feel fulfilled. I feel happy.

Hello Judith,
Lovely read. Books are definitely a good way to actualize your decision to become a better person. Being in a book club also changed my life, and reading self-help books was definitely a step further for me. It helps my focus.
I admire your commitment to one book a month. Keep it up 😃
Thank you so much Ayoola. At least I know someone reads my post and thank you so much for the opportunity to be part of the club. Thank you again for the encouragement.
