An A in management writing

I have noticed a dramatic turnaround in my level of concentration. I can now focus on text for a long time and understand complex sentences while I speed read. I now understand what people mean when they say that the brain is like a muscle and grows by exercise.

This development is not limited to my reading alone but also my writing, I now write clearly, and I can use pre-planned arguments to persuade people during conversations. Below is a letter I wrote to my staff about the need to shut down and reshuffle the team. Although I sensed this was a good decision as it is challenging to teach an old dog new tricks, I also recognized that they are humans, and I will be taking away their source of livelihood.

I, therefore used the ICAA format to plan a persuasive argument which I sent to every staff member informing them of management’s decision. Below is a sample of the message I communicated to the team:

Crest will be five years on the 7th of April and to celebrate our wood jubilee, we will be identifying our Loyal customers to give them their favourite meals for sticking with us thus far. Considering it is Ramadan period, we will also be giving out food to beggars around the city.

There has been a rise in competition in the nightlife space. This has adversely affected our market share and we will therefore need to go back to the drawing board to ensure we bring back our brand and ensure increased revenues. To this end, Crest will shut down for the usual yearly maintenance on the 8th of April,2022. Also, all staff will be retrained as per new work procedures and company policies to ensure a more seamless service delivery. This will be done along with new hires and selection to fill every position in crest will be made form the joint pool of participants. Present staff salaries will be prorated from the 1st to 7th of April prior to the beginning of the training. During the training sessions, participants will be given food and transportation allowance weekly.

The kitchen and delivery departments will be kept open to enable us take food orders but the facility will be closed to visitors until the end of the April.

All uniforms and crest items in your possession should be returned on the 8th of April prior to our shutdown to enable us take stock and update shortages.

If we are to continue with the present way of things, there will be a continuous reduction in service delivery and a concurrent loss in market share.

Our vision is to be the happiest place in the city, and we continually strive to create the best customer experience. I believe we have deviated too far from our goals and this will help put us back on the map and re-attract our high end customer base.
