I had fun during the intensive week but it was also hectic. Hectic because I was trying to play catch-up for the most part. It is a bit difficult to juggle motherhood, career, business and academics together. It will require some sort of magic to pull it off successfully.
The hectic part of the intensive was the commuting. I did not lodge close to the school initially because I thought I could manage driving back and forth daily. More so because I haven’t figured out how or who will take care of my two little children while I was away. I attended the online class on Monday and needless to say, I was simply playing catch-up. I couldn’t hear much of what was said and the internet chose that day to be epileptic.
There was fuel scarcity too, so I was trying to conserve the little fuel I have since neither I nor my husband could afford the time to queue for hours in the fueling station. However, due to my nasty Monday experience, I knew I had to make it to school on Tuesday to participate in the physical class. I drove myself to school on Tuesday and enjoyed the physical interaction amidst the workload of things to read, understand and present.
I travelled back home on Tuesday and the body ache was weakening as expected. The distance from the school to my house is under 60 minutes when there is no traffic but that day I was in traffic for over two hours. And I got home at past nine that night. By Wednesday morning, I was too weak to get up from the body aches and fatigue so I opted for online class again on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s class online was similar to Monday’s class, but I decided on Wednesday to get a hotel close to the school so I can sleep over instead of commuting back home after class. I proceeded to book for a hotel called Bates and felt quite good about my decision. On Thursday, I asked around to know if any other classmate of mine was lodging at the same hotel and I couldn’t find any, then my paranoia kicked in.
I located the hotel with little difficulty because it was quite hidden and situated in a corner plot. The paranoia kicked in full time when I entered the reception and everywhere looks deserted with an eerie feeling. I asked for the whereabouts of other students that I was told were lodged at the hotel as well and I was told that they are all in their rooms.
For safety purposes, I called my husband to let him know where and how to locate the hotel. I also made sure to lock the door and block it with a side table. I left my three inches heeled shoes close by and I was ready to use it as a weapon should I get any intruder at midnight. Even though I was sleepy and tired, I was also feeling unsafe about my environment. Finally, nature took over, I slept off and woke up in the morning to find that I was still alive and unscathed.
