Blogging 101 MEMBA 12

Blogging—ah, the glamorous world of churning out words, weaving narratives, and creating content that hopefully resonates with readers. While the end result may seem like a seamless flow of ideas, the truth is, behind every weekly blog post lies a labyrinth of challenges, creative roadblocks, and a formidable foe called ‘tedium.’ This blog is part of a requirement for an MBA management communication course. The faculty believes that the only way to improve your writing is to write.

Picture this: a blank screen, a blinking cursor, and a few hours to midnight on Sunday night. The first challenge of weekly blogging is deciding on what to write about. Crafting fresh, engaging content for a general audience, on a weekly basis requires summoning creativity on demand, and mosttimes, the well of inspiration was dry.

Writing is supposed to be a passion, or so I thought. In this case, it was an obligation which has grave consequences if the deadline is not met or your writing up to standard.  The pressure to consistently produce quality content can be burdensome, where the joy of creating is overshadowed by the wariness of the technicality of writing with no grammatical errors. Maintaining a balance between quantity and quality becomes a tightrope walk.

The demand of the MBA program and work ensured there would be little or no time for research. Blog topics had to be limited to be related to current schoolwork or subject matters that I had considerable knowledge of.

Editing, Rewriting, Repeat: Writing is rewriting, as the saying goes. Crafting a blog post is not a one-and-done process. It involves multiple rounds of editing, revising, and fine-tuning to ensure the final product meets the standards of clarity and coherence. This iterative process can be mentally taxing, especially when faced with a tight schedule.

The creative mind is a treasure trove of ideas, but not all of them materialize seamlessly onto the page. Transforming abstract concepts into coherent narratives requires a delicate dance between imagination and practicality. The struggle lies in bridging the gap between the idealized vision and the reality of written expression.

Perhaps the most challenging aspect of weekly blogging is the perpetual pursuit of meeting your lecturer’s and readers’ expectations. Balancing variety, relevance, and consistency to keep an audience engaged week after week requires a strategic approach and an understanding of the ever-evolving landscape of reader preferences.

Behind the polished facade of a weekly blog lies the uncharted territory of the writing process—a journey filled with hurdles, doubts, and the occasional triumph. For every writer committed to the art of weekly blogging, the tediousness is real, but so is the satisfaction of connecting with an audience through the power of words. So, here’s to the bloggers, the word warriors, navigating the marathon of words with resilience, creativity, and a touch of humour in the face of weekly tedium.
