When drinking is concerned especially beer, it’s important to find a balance that works for you or you might be forced to realize that something light, isn’t actually as light as you thought. Today, we’ll be looking at the types of beer there are and their benefits and risks.Let’s get into it quickly.

What is lager beer?

Lager beer is a type of beer that is fermented and conditioned at low temperatures. It’s known for its crisp and clean taste.

What is light beer?

Light beer is a type of beer that has a  lower alcohol content and fewer calories compared to regular beer. It’s a popular choice for those who want to enjoy a beer without consuming as many calories.

How is lager beer made?

Lager beer is made through a process called lagering. It starts with brewing a mixture of malted barley, water, hops, and yeast. The yeast used in lager beer is bottom-fermenting, which means it ferments at lower temperatures. After fermentation, the beer is stored in cool conditions for several weeks or months, allowing it to mature and develop its distinct flavors. This process gives lager beer its clean and crisp taste.

How is light beer made?

Light beer is made using a similar process to regular beer, but with a few modifications. The main difference lies in the amount of malt used during brewing. Light beer typically uses a higher proportion of adjunct grains, such as rice or corn, which helps reduce the calorie and carbohydrate content. This results in a beer with a lighter body and lower alcohol content. It’s a great option for those looking for a lighter and more refreshing beer choice.

Health benefits of lager beer

It’s important to note that excessive alcohol consumption can have negative health effects. That being said, moderate beer consumption has been associated with a few potential health benefits. Beer, including lagers, contains antioxidants and certain nutrients like B vitamins, which can support heart health. Additionally, some studies suggest that moderate beer consumption may be linked to a lower risk of certain conditions like heart disease and kidney stones.

Health risks of lager beer

Like any alcoholic beverage, excessive consumption of lager beer can have negative health effects. Some potential health risks of consuming too much lager beer include:

1. Increased risk of liver damage: Excessive alcohol consumption can lead to liver diseases such as alcoholic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver cancer.

2. Weight gain: Lager beer, like other alcoholic beverages, contains calories that can contribute to weight gain if consumed in excess.

3. Dehydration: Alcohol is a diuretic, which means it can increase urine production and lead to dehydration if not balanced with adequate water intake.

4. Increased risk of certain cancers: Heavy and prolonged alcohol consumption has been linked to an increased risk of various cancers, including mouth, throat, esophageal, liver, and breast cancer

5. Impaired judgment and coordination: Lager beer, like any alcoholic beverage, can impair judgment, coordination, and reaction time, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries.

The health risks  of light beer is just the same as that of lager beer, but I will just like to add this last point for my GenZ buddies:

6. Addiction and dependency: Regular and excessive consumption of beer can lead to alcohol addiction and dependency.

I need you, you need me, the world needs us. Drink responsibly! Remember that moderation is key.#MMBA5
