The MBA Is Not A One-Man Journey

Written by Boluwatife Sanwo · 1 min read >

Starting my part-time MBA at Lagos Business School has been quite a journey. I am in the third week now, and I have learned that this educational adventure is not something you tackle alone, especially when you have challenging courses like Data Analytics on your plate. It is more like a group effort, where everyone brings something important to the learning table.

I am part of a group comprising some really smart and helpful people, and this has made a huge difference. Our team is like a mix of different skills and experiences. This diversity is a big strength because when we come together to work on assignments and difficult topics, we are better able to break it down eventually such that everyone understands and no one is left behind. We learn from each other, and this extends beyond what we read in books to what really happens in the business world.

The idea that an MBA is not a solo thing becomes clear when we tackle tricky business cases courtesy of Analysis of Business Problems (ABP). The varied expertise in our group is like a superpower. We are not only learning from our professors but also learning from each other’s practical knowledge.

Even though we are learning online, the virtual setup has not stopped us from feeling like a close-knit group. Interacting with my classmates on the screen has created a friendly atmosphere. We do not just talk about school stuff; we also share stories and take short breaks together. This online connection, surprisingly friendly and helpful, reminds me that the MBA journey is not just about studying; it is also about making friends, forming bonds, and creating a shared story that goes beyond the virtual classrooms where we meet.

This team spirit goes beyond classwork and this network we are building is not just for now; it is something that will be useful even after we finish the program. Perhaps, I should not talk about finishing the program just yet, seeing as we are 101 weeks away from the end, but then, as they say, time flies.

Thinking about these first few weeks of my MBA, I see that success in business is hardly ever a one-person show, and victories are hardly self-earned. It is about understanding how powerful teamwork is, appreciating what others bring to the group, and using everyone’s smarts to solve problems.

Among many other things, LBS is giving me more than just book knowledge. It is showing me how important it is to work and learn together, finding solutions as a team. This MBA journey is not just about what you know; it is about learning how to work with others, solve problems as a group, and get ready for the real world. Undoubtedly, this journey is demanding, but the load is considerably lighter when shouldered with the support and collaboration of a diverse and talented team.

As I continue to navigate this exciting yet often scary terrain, I am reminded that this journey is not just about the individual; it is about the collective strength that emerges when we work together towards our common goal—acing the MBA.

Happiness: A Unique Inside Job!
