On my way to work on friday, I took a bus from Doyin to Ojuelegba. The fare is typically 100 or 200 naira . I didn’t have “change” and totally forgot to ask the driver if he didn’t mind .
We were half way gone and he echoed “owo da” loosely translated to mean “where your money “. Most people brought 500 naira notes, the driver was grumbling that he didn’t have ‘change’. I gave him one thousand naira and he just threw it back at me . I picked it and smiled cos it was not his fault . Usually I ask or at least inform drivers I don’t have change cos Lagos drivers and conductors have an association where they take master class on how to be rude to passengers without change.
I searched my handbag and didnt find lower denomination . I sat there thinking of what to do. This guy close to me asked his friend from the back to give me 200 naira . He opend his wallet and gave me 800 naira totaling 1k. I looked at him and started smiling instantly. I thanked him and asked ‘God to bless him’ and he smiled
I know for some persons this isn’t a big deal but for me it is . I recognise kindness when I see one . This singular act from him made my day start off on a good note . I pray he finds helpers where he goes and may the good he did to me come back to him Amen.
We should find ways to show kindness to people daily. That smile from a stranger can beautify your day.
Stay beautiful my people .
