Every man is made up of a spirit, a soul, and a body. Some jokingly say a man is three compartments in one body and the makeup of each compartment shapes a man’s life. Particularly, his body and soul can be made up to mirror certain patterns and/or looks. Here in lies the interplay of man’s intellect and will.
The outcomes of any Man’s life are geared by his beliefs (through his intellect) and his will. A man’s will is attracted to good and while good is subjective to different men, everyone inherently has a will that tends to work with what he believes is good. Once a Man’s will is energized, there is then no limit to how much he can achieve. He stretches with that energized will. This concept is explained using three materials below.
First, is the powerful memoir “Man’s Search for Meaning“, by Viktor Franklin a Holocaust survivor, which explains how much a man’s will can be stretched, energized, and strengthened once he finds a purpose (that is, a reason to live, a reason to dream, a drive to be successful), then his will is energized to do (To work, to love, to live and the list goes on). Mr. Franklin in those camps decided not to die and gave himself reasons to live and of course, that saw him through.
It follows that it applies to our corporate jobs/businesses, that is, workers/employees will run with better steam on the job once they see or are given a vision/mission to run with. It might not always be that we would have productive workers where there is a will to work, but in the majority, that would be the case. It however goes beyond thinking that people would be productive with their will energized, the dimensions of their senses, that is, every man’s default mode of responding to situations must also be considered, which is why, a balance has to be struck here – men see things differently, react differently, feel differently, but everyman, however, can choose the side of the balance he takes and the stance he takes to things happening every day around him.
Similarly, in the book Tuesdays with Morrie, it was clear to see Morrie, a dearly loved Professor dying, but in that very state, he chose his reaction to that sentence. He chose to enjoy the moment and be present with the reality that faced him. His will was strengthened even in the face of death, pain, and disease (what he felt), and he chose to face that reality, comfort others who have lost a loved one, and even publicize his final days in a book.
I believe we all can and, will be able to do more when we accept our realities. We might not always have control of things that happen, but we can choose our response (s) to them. Brad, from the video, Front of the Class, was also with a disability as it were, but chose to follow through with his dreams.
Of course, there were a lot of other subjects at play in the various mentioned materials, like the individuals who gave their support, those who were empathetic, those who played defining examples for others to follow, etc., it all boils down to why we need to understand people better, become more emotionally intelligent and imbibe the values that provide a better living society/community for others.
