Why I am doing an MBA in Lagos Business School.

Written by Precious Victor Njoku · 2 min read >

My name is Precious V. Njoku. I am a graduate of Soil Science from the faculty of agriculture University of Abuja, Nigeria.

Today, I work in the real estate sector as sales / Operations personnel and I have risen through the career ladder to be the General Manager in my organization.

During the course of my job role, I have been given task that got me confused and wondering if I am equal to the task, given the fact that my background is the sciences and I’m not so strong with figures.

I am a kind of person, always ready to rise to any challenge. I would go the extra mile to prove my-self worthy of any given position as long as I am passionate about it.

In 2019, I went online and searched for accredited Business schools near me, Lagos Business school and some other popped up. I called up a few of them and got all the information I needed. They all sounded okay. When I called Lagos business school, the fee was too high for me as well as the fact that I had to have at least 5 years of experience in a managerial role. I decided to settle for any other one.

Events took over, and I couldn’t enroll in any of the business schools for reasons I can’t even explain. Being a person that doesn’t like to be idle, Because I am a firm believer in “there should be no vacuum in your lifer time” I started taking short courses to challenge my mental strength and give me an edge in my career. Some of the short courses I have done are, Digital marketing, Data analytics, Jobberman soft skills, Customer service training and other Sales Trainings.

In all this, I still didn’t have that fulfilment of defending my Job role with certified requisite skills. I was recently promoted to the position of the executive secretary of my company. This meant more work and the level of expectation from me became more intense.

In 2020, I started hunting for the business school that best fits in to my schedule and is cost effective at the same time. Again, I dodged Lagos Business School because of the high fees and the fact that I needed pass the NMAT Exam or GMAT exam. I was on the verge of making payment for another school when my mentor advised me to hold on and think about my decision.

In his words, “it is better to do something the right way and get the best result instead of doing it for the sake of doing it”. He went further to explain the me that he did his first MBA in on of the federal universities in Nigeria which he never used for anything. He wasn’t thorough in his decision making. He just did it because his friends were doing it. He ended up doing another MBA in Warrick, Uk.

After this conversation, as if Lbs was eavesdropping on our conversation, an ad, appeared on my timeline from Lbs for the  Modular MBA. I called up the number and a lady name Mary picked up the call. Honestly, she was very helpful during the enquiry to the pre -registration Process. My fears came to life when I failed the NMAT exam in  my first attempt. She however, encouraged me to take it again. I did, and I passed. That day, I felt like I won the World Cup. I felt like the entire marketing team of LBS was happy for me. Because, apart from failing the first try, network was failing me, free vouchers didn’t work at some point. After a while a gave up and decided to wait for 2024 batch. But she encouraged me to give it a try one more time. Thank God I did. And as they Say, “the rest is history”.

Looking Back, I wouldn’t have gone through all the stress of LBS didn’t thick all the boxes for me which are;

  1. Accreditation
  2. Proximity
  3. Localized learning using case study methods
  4. The school ambience
  5. The quality of staff in the school

I have no doubt that at the end of this programme I will be a seasoned business executive and a global thought leader.

Happiness: A Unique Inside Job!
