It was a beautiful day at the Lagos Business School (LBS) football pitch as two teams, EMBA 28 and MBA 21, locked horns in match game 3 of the ongoing Dean’s Cup football competition. The game promised to be a thrilling encounter, with both teams looking to come out on top in this battle of wits and skills.
The EMBA 28 team, with an average age of 40 years, was made up of seasoned professionals who had honed their skills over the years. The MBA 21 team, on the other hand, had an average age of 28 years and was made up of younger, more agile players. The stage was set for an exciting match as both teams took to the field.
The game started at a frenetic pace, with both teams eager to impose their dominance. The MBA 21 team started brightly, controlling the midfield and creating several chances early on. Despite their dominance, they failed to convert their chances, and the EMBA 28 team was able to weather the storm through the brilliance of our goalkeeper, Femi Makinde who saved 4 shots from the marauding MBA 21 striker.
As the first half progressed, our EMBA 28 team grew in confidence and started to exert influence on the game. We created several chances of our own, but the younger MBA 21 team defended resolutely to keep us at bay. However, the MBA 21 team eventually broke the deadlock with a stunning goal from their striker, who curled the ball into the top corner of the net.
However, we did not let our heads drop and continued to press forward. We were eventually rewarded with a goal of our own, which came from a well-placed shot from our striker, Adeagbo Adedayo, after a scuttle within the MBA 21 box. The first half ended 1-1, with both teams evenly matched.
The second half started much like the first, with both teams eager to score. The MBA 21 team again dominated possession and was able to take the lead once again, with a well-placed shot from their striker. However, our team, again, refused to give up and continued to attack.
Our persistence paid off as Ahmed Ismail scored a beautiful free-kick from just outside the box to level the score after a foul on one of our players. The game ended 2-2, with both teams sharing the spoils.
Playing from the left side of a 4-man midfield, I was at the heart of the action throughout the game. It was a challenging game, with both teams giving their all. I had to be at my best to keep up with the younger, more agile players of the MBA 21 team. I had to use all my experience to stay one step ahead of them and create chances for my team.
In the second half, I was switched to a defensive role, which was equally challenging. I had to be alert and focused at all times, as the MBA 21 team continued to press forward which required that I make several crucial tackles and interceptions to keep them at bay.
Overall, it was a fantastic game of football, played in the true spirit of sportsmanship. Both teams gave their all, and the result was a fair reflection of the game. The competition was not only a fantastic opportunity for students to come together and showcase their skills on the field but also a great way to build camaraderie and promote healthy competition among the students.
This match was a thrilling encounter that will live long in the memory of the players and those that witnessed it, and I am already looking forward to our next match. A special appreciation to all the entire team members: Sinmi, Grant, Otaoghene, James, Okechukwu, Lanre, Adedayo, Ganiu, Akinwande, Saliu, Ismail, Austin, myself, and our man of the match, Femi (Allison) Makinde. I salute you all and see you all at our next bout.
