Written by Isma’il · 2 min read >

Save the date; the 14th and 15th of Mach, 2023 are the dates set for the first semester exams for EMBA28, Lagos Business School. Just two days examination but is going to be thought and challenging for many of us. Not because of anything but time constraints. Many students are still struggling to balance their time between work and studies. However, there is no available time to prepare, exams are awaiting, as we are finishing the session work.

Exams are an inevitable part of academic life. Whether you’re in high school, college, degree programs, or pursuing a professional certification, preparing for exams is an essential part of your academic journey. Effective preparation for exams can make a significant difference in your grades, your stress levels, and your confidence. Here are some tips I learn from my senior colleagues and mentors that may help us prepare for exams effectively:

  • Create a study plan:

Creating a study plan is the first step in preparing for exams. Start by creating a schedule that outlines your study sessions. Determine the amount of time you have available to study and allocate it to specific subjects. Be sure to include breaks in your schedule to avoid burnout.

  • Gather study materials:

Once you have a study plan in place, gather all the study materials you need. This includes textbooks, notes, study guides, and practice exams. Make sure you have all the resources you need to study effectively.

  1. Identify your strengths and weaknesses:

Identify the areas you are strong in and the ones you need to improve. Focus on your weak areas and allocate more study time to them. This will help you to make significant improvements in your exam performance.

  • Practice with past exams:

Practice exams are an essential tool for exam preparation. They help you to familiarize yourself with the types of questions you can expect on the actual exam. Try to get your hands on past exams and use them to practice.

  • Join a study group:

Studying with others is an excellent way to prepare for exams. Join a study group or create one of your own. Group members can share their knowledge and help each other in areas where they struggle.

  • Take care of yourself:

According to Yusuf Lakadir (My boss), “Your mental and physical well-being is crucial during the exam preparation period. Get enough rest, exercise, and eat healthily. Avoid last-minute cramming as it can lead to burnout and decreased performance”.

  • Stay organized:

Staying organized is essential during the exam preparation period. Keep your study materials organized and review them regularly. Ensure that you have all the necessary materials for the exam day, such as a registration number, writing materials, laptop charger, stable light environment, etc. all to ensure that you are all organized.

I strongly believe in these pieces of advice from my mentors. However, they forgot to mention one of the most important things, that a common man believes in, the prayers! This is the first and the last step in preparing examination. Pray even after the exams, with the belief in prayers alone you will have your confidence boosted and you will never lose focus on achieving your desired success.

In conclusion, effective preparation for exams requires time, effort, and commitment. Creating a study plan, gathering study materials, identifying your strengths and weaknesses, practicing with past exams, developing a study group, taking care of yourself, and staying organized are all critical factors that contribute to exam success. By following these tips, you can prepare for exams effectively and achieve your academic goals.
