One of the foremost lessons I learned during my first intensive week at LBS is the importance of teamwork in achieving individual and group success. Firstly, I quickly sensed that we were strategically grouped as MBA students, mainly across – age, background, strength, weakness, and experience. I get it, we were expected to harmonize our skills and experience into achieving collective and individual success. The only thing I did not see coming was how fast we synced like Kelvin De Bruyne and Haaland in Manchester City Jersey – football lovers will understand. Practically, as an MBA student, you have an individual responsibility to get the best out of the program and a collective responsibility to contribute positively to the development of others.
Today, I will be highlighting the valuable teamwork lessons I learned during the MMBA4 football team, “The Pirates”, against MBA21. I had the privilege to get a better view because I was the team captain, and I had a helicopter perspective of the game as a defender.

Football, like many other sports, is a team game. It involves a group of players working together towards a common goal – to win the game. In order to achieve success in football, it is important that each player understands the importance of teamwork. I know that teamwork allows a team to function effectively on the field. For any team to win, each player needs to understand their role in the team and how they or can contribute to the team’s success. This means that players need to be able to work together, communicate effectively, and be willing to sacrifice their own interests for the benefit of the team. By doing this, the team can work together effectively and efficiently, resulting in a greater chance of success.
Secondly, teamwork creates a sense of unity and camaraderie among the team. By default, I noticed that the players had a strong bond on and off the pitch. This bond was created through teamwork, as players learned to rely on each other and support each other on and off the ball. This sense of unity also created a positive team culture, where players were encouraged to work hard and be supportive of each other, creating a positive environment where everyone was striving for the same goal.
Thirdly, teamwork allows players to learn from each other. Football is a game that requires a range of different skills, from passing and shooting to defending and goalkeeping. By working together as a team, players had the opportunity to learn from each other and develop new skills. This is similar to the MBA program as students have the luxury of learning and sharing knowledge with their group members.
Fourthly, teamwork can help players to develop important life skills. Football is not just about winning games; it is also about developing important life skills such as communication, leadership, and teamwork. By working together as a team, players can develop these skills, which will be valuable not just on the field, but also in their personal life.
In conclusion, teamwork is an essential component of success in any establishment. Whether it is through improved communication, increased trust, better decision-making, improved performance, increased motivation, or stronger relationships, working as a team is essential to achieving the goals of the team. When players work together, they can achieve great things and create unforgettable memories on and off the field.
