My First Day in Lagos Business School

The Lagos Business School Ambience

On the 11th of February, 2023, it was my first time in the premises of the prestigious Lagos Business School. The ambience was serene and surreal. Every detail about the premises suggests an atmosphere that is welcoming and ready to educate to the letter.

The Security personnel at the gate did their routine checks when it was my turn and asked if I knew my way, I was quick to tell them that its my first time here for MMBA4 and I did not know my way. They didn’t hesitate to show me where to pack my car and direct me to the right building.

I was quite impressed that as soon as I got to the car park, another security personnel was already stationed to further direct me so that I don’t miss my way. I got the to reception and the receptionist also directed me to Zenith bank class room on the first floor. I remember Kayode had sent us a mail to say the the venue was Zenith bank second floor. But for some reason, I didn’t specify what floor to the receptionist.

I remember vividly that at every corner and junction, there where signs to point out direction to every faculty or classroom . I thought to my self that this was a good one. If only Lagos roads had this type of detailing for every location, someone like me would never get missing or confused on the streets of Lagos. Lost in thoughts of awe as I walked through the corridors of the magnificent edifice of a world class citadel of learning, suddenly I heard a voice behind me ” Excuse me madam”? do you need help finding your way?” I said ” Yes, please direct me to Zenith bank class room”. It was one of the janitors. I know this because she was wearing a janitors uniform and holding a mop stick.

I was sited in class at exactly 8:30 am. I was proud of my self that I made it early to class because I was told to be seated at least 5 minutes before the start of class by 9:00 am.

I noticed that all the sits already had name tags. I looked around to see if I would find my name on any but I didn’t see my name. So I assumed that there must have been a class here and the facilitator forgot to take out the name tags.

As at 9: 30 am, we were just 2 in class. Myself and a young man I have come to know as Kelvin Omozohkpia. Then I decided to check the mail that was sent and discovered it was Zenith Bank Second floor. I immediately packed and headed to the right venue.

I met Ms. Ifeoma Nwabachili already talking about Etiquette in class. Ms. Nwabachili is a jovial but stern speaker who has a sense of humor that can take you unawares. Her ability to make an all inclusive session eased the bad feeling I had, that after all my preparations to make it to class earlier than expected, I still couldn’t meet up due to my negligence and lack of attention to detail. I made up my mind from then onwards to change and turn a new leave.

The Social skills class was quite interesting and broadened my horizon on a lot of things about acceptable conducts in the business environment both locally and internationally. It was quite interesting to learn that the Englishs’ table manners is a bit different from the Americans’ table manners. In all of this, the chinese have been able to maintain their style of eating on the dinning using their skewers for paster and other delicacies they have. This also appliers to their sitting styles for Men and Women, hygiene and a whole lot.

My First day in Lagos Business School for my MBA is a date that will stick to my memory for a long time because it is a dream come true against all odds. I am determined to make the best of every moment spent during the course of the 24 month programme.
