MY MBA JOURNEY (EMBA 28)

Written by Linda Dike · 1 min read >

Still on my MBA journey in Lagos Business School. Who would have thought that I would agree to stress myself by hoping in to do an MBA? Well, it has happened! I am a student of Lagos Business School and I thank God for bringing me to do this. I have just realized within this intensive week how much this program is impacting in my life. I have suddenly gotten this energy, this fire of wanting to do more for myself. Yes, I know I’ve gotten two degrees already but honestly this MBA is on another level for me. I feel I have improved in so many ways already. Setting deadlines for myself and achieving them is a good one for me. I know I’ve set deadlines for myself previously in my business and career and I’ve tried to meet those ones. Doing this MBA is totally a different target entirely for me. The intensive started off well but got very intensive honestly. There were nights I slept around 2am trying to read up cases and analyzing them, also studying some other courses and trying to meet up with classes I missed previously. It hasn’t been easy honestly but I’m going to pull through.

I tried to go through Data Analytics course this week, being my hardest course but didn’t find time to study it because of the workload. Sometimes I wonder why we have a lot of courses with numbers. The thing I find frustrating about this MBA program is that sometimes the lecturers move thinking like all of us are consultants or chartered accountants or those who are good with numbers without remembering that some of us struggled with ordinary mathematics while in school and they are teaching advanced mathematics. Throughout this week, I have been trying to organize myself to see how best to make out time to study more.

We had meeting with the MBA Director today. He welcomed us nicely and assured us that he wants the best for each one of us. We all complained about the pressure of the MBA in Lagos Business School and the mental torture that it brings. We complained about the advanced math in the program. Meanwhile is so good to know that I’m not the only struggling with numbers. It was a big relief to know that there are a lot of us on the table. Well, after all our complaints to the MBA Director, he looked very concerned especially about the math part. He promised us that he will talk with the lecturers to see if we can be given  extra tutorials on that. Very nice of him to have listened patiently to us complaining with so much anger and disappointment. Honestly I’m so proud of the way he responded to us without talking down on anyone. When he said MBA Lagos Business School is recognized internationally, I knew he was sure of what he was saying. I was to do this program in University of Manchester UK but my son told me that I needed the local content and that Lagos Business School will give me just that and I will get a certificate that is internationally recognized at the same time.

Let’s keep going and see what next week holds for us!
