My journey into the executive MBA programme (part 2)

Written by Abosede Ogunjobi · 1 min read >

My interviewer’s response was that ‘do you know that you may find it difficult to scale through the executive MBA programme , by watching African Magic? You have to start watching stations like channels TV to get the latest information on happenings around you”. For a minute, I felt like I had blown my opportunity of getting admitted.

However, I remained hopeful.

You can imagine my joy, when I got an email from LBS informing me of my provisional admission into the University. I wasted no time in sending my acceptance letter, before they change their mind…lol

Orientation programme and brush up classes

The orientation programe took place on the 20th and 21st of January 2023. I got to know that I belong to the 28th set of the Executive MBA programme known as EMBA 28.

During the orientation programme, Toyin, the executive MBA programme manager at LBS, told us all that there is to know about LBS and  the executive MBA programme

On my first day in school, I met new people, and I was convinced that I am about to have an exciting experience.

Brush up classes were arranged , and I ensured I was punctual in all the classes.

The classes that struck me the most, were the ones on emotional intelligence by General Tunde and Yinka Reiss and Nature of human beings by Kemi Ogunyemi. These  are  not subjects you come across everyday, and once again I was glad I enrolled for the executive MBA programme. I felt I was on a journey to becoming a better version of me.

Within the week, I was assigned an email account and granted access to the E-learning platform. It took me a while to navigate the e-learning platform, but I later got a hang of it.

Group distributions

All the students were distributed into four groups and I was assigned to group 3. The group had an online meeting to elect our group representatives and course leaders. It was interesting how people who were hitherto strangers could come together and bond so well in such a brief period of time.

Emails were sent out for students who wished to participate in the LBS Alumni mentoring programme, student led activities and join various clubs to indicate their interests. After a careful examination of my objectives from the programme, I settled for  the Toastmasters club and the Entrepreneur’s club.

The expectations from the students on the executive MBA programme are quite high. The students are expected to read and prepare ahead of classes, revise notes from previous lectures in addition to submission of assignments on Turnitin ( a platform that checks the originality of  submitted work to prevent plagiarism).

After 3 weeks of lectures at LBS ,and on the executive MBA journey, I can tell, that I am definitely not leaving LBS the same way I came there.

As overwhelming as the experience may be, it is worth the stress. I see a whole lot of opportunities ahead of me during and after the executive MBA programme.

Happiness: A Unique Inside Job!
