God bless our young ones.
Nothing compares to the joy of having a baby, especially for a woman. The love you shower on and receive from babies is comparable to none. So innocent, yet so touching.
Today’s blog reminds me of my special bond with my little niece. Noiza was born in February this year to a family of two boys, ages ten and twelve, respectively. She is the mother’s (come to think of it, also father’s) answered prayers for a baby girl and a child in the house while the boys go to “Boarding House”; a secondary school where the students live within the school premises while being given a formal education.
For a few years before Noiza was born, the brothers always fantasized about having a sister; they almost resigned to their fate and started to refer to their cousin as their sister and the love they shower on the cousin-sister is so admirable, even though the girl is older than them, lol. It is interesting to see the two young ladies grow up and become wiser daily, Noiza especially. Maybe because she was born at a time when every member of the extended family had gotten used to having the third generation as all almost teenagers.
Is she getting pampered by everyone? Sure. So my mother picks her up from the creche, dresses her up, and just drives around the town with this young lady. Mum says Noiza is my father reincarnated (our parents and fables), and to avoid long impossible-to-win arguments, no one argues with mum on this; rather we admire the sweetness of the love shared between two ladies, decades apart in age.
The older brother who was to resume a boarding secondary school this year had to seek a concession from his parents to defer his resumption at the boarding house, so he can watch his sister grow.
Auntie Abimbola on her own would take a shopping trip and end up spending all her travel allowance shopping for Noiza, even though she outgrows the items fast. What a lucky baby girl, she has everyone’s heart and I believe she realizes this. Have I said anything about her love for attention? Oh my God, this girl realizes that she is unique to everyone, and she sure uses that to her advantage, what a smart baby! My only worry is that she is not spoilt by all the love and attention she receives.
‘Noiza, now at ten months, has developed qualities peculiar to her and she is such an intelligent baby. And oh yes, she’s pretty, has a beautiful smile that can light up a room. I don’t think my day is complete without making a video call to her. Her mom thinks I am being partial, and yes, maybe I am. It is such a delight to watch her grow.
This made me realize how much I want to have a baby daughter as a first child. I just can’t think of my family without Ada in it, lol.
Thank you for reading my blog, cheers, and good luck to everyone.
