Today, I have spent my day catching up on my backlog of school work on Nature of human beings course. These include podcasts, TEDx talks , YouTube videos and written materials. And there are so many fascinating thoughts that I would like to share. These are thing that I have learnt and would like to inculcate in my life.
1. Reframe your mind. Oftentimes, I find myself overwhelmed with negative emotions that I stop functioning. Reframing the mind means that I have to see these negative emotions are opportunities for growth and utilize is the same. The speaker pointed out that negative emotions is growth waiting to happen. Rather than running from them or living in the denial of their existence, it is acknowledging the way I feel and asking myself ‘what should I rather do?’ This way, I am rechanneling these energies into something more productive. Afterall, adrenaline is energy waiting to be harnessed.
2. The efficient way of waking up. The best way to wake up is rising from bed immediately. Staying back in bed, tossing around and thinking of the day’s tasks expends energy that can be used in the actual things. Makes us wake up tired and lazy. Now this happens to me a lot. So now, I hope to use my energies better.
3. Mindfulness. This is the act of being present. as young people living in a fast world, distractions abound. it makes up fleet between tasks or between rest and tasks, hence we spend a lot of time doing everything and nothing with little time for sleep. by practicing mindfulness, the speaker asks that we should focus on one task at a time. So that when i rest, I really rest well. this way, I will be able to live better. Which is the end goal.
4. Many erring behaviors like suicide, depression, mass shootings, Thefts can be linked to a malfunction of the brain. Often times these behaviors are a symptom of a more underlying brain malfunction, Luckily, we are not stuck with the brain we are born with. There are so many brain development program we can undergo to make the our brain more useful. And hence change our lives.
These are the most profound insights for me from today. Hope your weekend was as fruitful as mine?
