The Vital Pause: Nurturing Success Through Breaks in Lagos Business School

Written by Kehinde Williams · 1 min read >

In the fast-paced world of Lagos business school, where lectures, assignments, and networking events are my daily routine, the concept of taking a break might seem like a luxury or an unnecessary indulgence. However, the importance of stepping back, pausing, and allowing oneself to “breatheeeeee” cannot be overstated, especially in the dynamic environment of Lagos business school where everything is happening so fast.

Amidst the whirlwind of classes, group projects, and extracurricular activities, the need for a break has become a crucial component of personal well-being and academic success. The relentless pursuit of knowledge and professional growth often leads me to overlook the undeniable benefits that come with taking a moment to reset.

Firstly, breaks serve as mental rejuvenation. The demanding nature of Lagos business school coursework and the constant exposure to new concepts can be mentally exhausting. The brain, much like a muscle, requires moments of rest to perform at its best. Taking a break allows me to step away from the intense intellectual rigor, giving my mind the opportunity to process information, consolidate learning, and return to tasks with increased focus and clarity.

Moreover, breaks offer a chance for self-reflection. The business world is competitive, and success is often measured not only by academic achievements but also by personal growth and self-awareness. Taking time away from the academic grind provides me with the space to assess my goals, values, and motivations. This introspective process can lead to a deeper understanding of oneself, paving the way for more informed decisions and a clearer sense of direction in both academic and professional pursuits.

In addition, breaks foster a sense of community and connection among my colleagues. The collaborative and competitive nature of the Lagos business school education encourages teamwork and the exchange of ideas and may also cause some disagreements. Shared breaks provide us with opportunities to build relationships outside the formal learning environment, cultivating a supportive network that can prove invaluable in future professional endeavors. Informal interactions during breaks often lead to the discovery of common interests, the forging of friendships, and the development of a robust professional network.

Physical well-being also benefits from regular breaks. Sitting through hours of lectures and group discussions can take a toll on the body. Period breaks allows students to stretch their limbs, go for a walk, or engage in a quick workout. Physical activity not only promotes better health but also stimulates the release of endorphins in the brain, and dopamine from your body which is responsible for enhancing your mood and your overall well-being.

In conclusion, the importance of taking breaks whilst attending Lagos business school extends beyond momentary relief. It is a holistic investment in one’s mental, emotional, and physical health, with far-reaching implications for academic success and future professional achievements. By recognizing the significance of pauses in the relentless pursuit of knowledge, Lagos business school students can strike a balance that ensures not only excellence in their studies but also a sustainable and fulfilling educational experience. This is why I will forever be grateful to the MMBA 5 students and the governing body for making hanging out and taking breaks as a group top priority.! Cannot wait for the next hangout…………. It is well needed! 😊 😊 😊  .
