What to do when you don’t know what to do

Ever find yourself in a pickle, not knowing what to do?

This has been me for a while now, juggling school with other life’s expectation has certainly made it harder to be quick on my feet with quick fixes. I will share with you simple steps that helped me out when I felt stuck.

  1. Take a Breath: First things first, take a deep breath. Relax. It’s okay not to have all the answers right away. Calm yourself down before you dive into problem-solving mode.
  2. Break It Down: Big problems can be scary. Break them into smaller, more manageable parts. Tackle one piece at a time. It’s like eating a pizza – slice by slice.
  3. Ask for Help: Don’t be shy to ask for help. Talk to a friend, family member, or even a colleague. Two heads are often better than one. They might have a fresh perspective or some wise advice.
  4. Google It: The internet is a treasure trove of information. If you’re unsure about something, type it into a search engine. You might find the answers you need or at least get pointed in the right direction.
  5. Make a List: Grab a piece of paper and a pen. Write down your options. Seeing them on paper can make things clearer. Plus, it feels great to check things off once you’ve decided on a course of action.
  6. Learn from Others: Have others faced a similar situation? Read about their experiences. You can find inspiration and maybe even learn from their mistakes. It’s like having a personal guidebook.
  7. Sleep On It: Sometimes, a good night’s sleep can do wonders. Your brain keeps working on problems even when you’re not consciously thinking about them. You might wake up with a fresh perspective.
  8. Accept Imperfection: It’s okay not to have the perfect solution. Life is messy, and we’re all just figuring things out as we go. Give yourself some grace and know that it’s alright to make mistakes.
  9. Trust Your Instincts: You know yourself better than anyone. What feels right to you? Trust your gut feeling. It’s usually trying to tell you something important.
  10. Experiment: Life is an experiment. Try something out. If it doesn’t work, that’s okay. You’ve learned what doesn’t work, and that’s progress. Keep trying until you find a solution that fits.

Remember, not knowing what to do is a part of life. It’s an opportunity to learn and grow. So, take a step back, breathe, and take it one step at a time. You’ve got this!
