Hello once again, today we would blog about The Perks of doing an MBA as an executive.
I sometimes would tease and call it Adult Education, because how else can we describe going to school in our 30s and 40s. I had the option of just doing a short course in LBS but at the last minute, I changed my mind and decided to go for the Executive MBA.
The business world as we know it is fast changing, and if we don’t innovate as fast, we would become dormant and die out.
I had imagined that running an MBA program would be like my undergraduate days, so i had a lot of initial apprehension, especially with my absolutely crazy schedule. But here are some of the perks of an Executive MBA
- Case Studies – I absolutely enjoy reading and analyzing problems, but with Case Studies, it’s a whole new terrain entirely. The analytical part of your brain must function, otherwise….
- The Faculty is more concerned about the practical application of what we have learnt, than the theoretical aspects. This is one of the most interesting aspects of the MBA program, we are not learning the definition of CFA, or the different types of ratios we have. The goal is to ask ourselves, how do we apply this when dealing with real life scenarios? For example, when reviewing the income statement of two companies in the same industry, across 10 years in our Capstone project, it revealed quite a lot. The varying results triggered some deep thinking. For example, we could see when a company was making losses and performing poorly, but improved over the years. How did they make that turnaround? What made the difference?
Lastly, the prospect of building a great network. You get to meet so many people, in different industries and career paths. This helps you appreciate the gift of human beings and how interesting the human mind works.
Thank you for reading and see you on the other side
Love,
Edim Junadia (aka The Iron Butterfly)
