The Power of Preparation

Written by Yagazie Eguare · 55 sec read >

I dedicated the day to being a full-time mom as my daughter’s school hosted their inter-house sports event. It was a vibrant showcase of colors, excitement, joy, unity, and sportsmanship. I intentionally blocked the day in my calendar to focus solely on them, and I’m pleased to have kept that commitment. Our team, “Heron,” proudly represented the winning spirit.

Throughout the day, I observed aspects that resonated with business implications:

  1. Every moment is a gift: A mother’s decision not to invest in a parent’s uniform, reasoning that it wouldn’t be used again, made me reflect on the value of fully experiencing a moment, even if it may not recur. Life events are often unique, and each moment is a precious privilege.
  2. Kids will always remember: My daughter, at the end of the day, appreciated that I fulfilled my promise to spend time with her. It highlighted the significance of being present and actively participating in creating lasting memories intentionally.
  3. Preparation is king: Despite winning the first position in the march past, our team, Heron house, secured the last position in the overall sports competition due to inadequate planning for the races. This underscored the importance of thorough preparation in seizing opportunities and achieving success.

Reflecting on these lessons prompts questions:

  • How many missed opportunities result from inadequate preparation?
  • How many defining moments pass by when we underestimate their significance?
  • What intentional actions can one take to ensure they leave a memorable impact?

I have certainly embraced these lessons and will be applying them across different aspects of my life

Happiness: A Unique Inside Job!
