It’s the mid-semester point – that bittersweet milestone where we find ourselves halfway through the academic journey. It’s hard to believe that it has only been five weeks since the semester started. As we settle into the rhythm of classes, assignments, and group presentations, lt’s good to take a moment to reflect on this pivotal time and discover ways to make the most of it.
The mid-semester is not just a checkpoint; it is an opportunity for self-reflection. Personally it has not been so great, as the MBA program turned out tougher than I thought it will be. I’m aware of the points I’ve lost so far for not catching up as fast but on the bright side, I’ve been able to unmute my mic few times to either answer questions or to contribute in class which is a good way to gain some points – I need to do better at that still but I’ll celebrate my small wins for now.
I’ve also experienced the mounting workload that comes with the school’s calendar. Balancing assignments, presentations, classes, meetings with my study group while handling my business have been a tug of war which indicates I need to be better now than ever at time management. A way to go might be by breaking down my tasks into smaller, manageable chunks. Prioritize my responsibilities and create a schedule that allows for focused work and well-deserved breaks as it is all about finding that sweet spot between productivity and self-care.
Reaching out for support is essential in journeys such as this but it is also something I struggle to do well at. It is a herculean task most times to reach out for support when I need it. I’ve been a bit better lately though, whether in connecting with classmates for study groups, visiting lecturers during office hours, or utilizing campus resources, I try to do as much as I possibly can. “Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness”, a statement that encourages me most times. This isn’t a journey to do alone especially when there are people and resources available to guide me through any challenges I might face.
As the initial excitement of the semester begins to fade, it’s crucial to find ways to stay motivated. I try to set small, achievable goals for myself and reward myself when I accomplish them. I also try to surround myself with a positive and supportive network of friends and classmates who inspire and uplift me. I try not to forget to take breaks and engage in activities that bring me joy as maintaining a healthy work-life balance is key to sustained motivation.
While the mid-semester can feel like a whirlwind, it is essential to keep your eyes on the prize. Visualize your long-term goals and use this time to align your actions with your aspirations. Remember that every challenge you face now is an opportunity for growth and development. Believe in yourself and stay committed to all that matters and encourages growth. We’ve done well so far, but it’s time to do better!
