Data analytics: An eye-opener to new opportunities in the current labor market

Written by Chidiebere Osuji · 1 min read >

In our most recent class of data analytics our facilitators as he teaches us say said that his course is a hand on journey to professional usage of software and soft ware tools for modern day data analytics positions and opportunities in the market. But something really caught my attention how he set up his curriculum and it showed me the caliber of person he is and defended the reputation on LBS even as the current leading school of business. He said the best way to set up a curriculum is to know what professionals in that field are doing g at the moment, in fact he mentioned another but that I will not disclose because it might be private and as such, he would be the only one in authority to share such knowledge so for reference talk directly to professor Bongo himself. So, moving on Professor Bongo set a structured journey with the aim of taking the MMBA 5 set from newbies to professional or managerial level in data analytics or as far as possible. This setup would include learning and mastery of specific programs like:

Excel which is used to collect, arrange and structure data in ways that data entering can be formulated and automated for example; lectures that use excel to give overall score and grade to students. In data analytics an example would be making a column have a formula let’s say like profit margin of 15% so that once you putting the price of each item in one column the profit will automatically be calculated in another column. This makes a data set more structured and usable.

SQL: Structured query languages are tools that help data analyst to access specific details of a relational database or data set either imported from excel or created in the software itself. Although there is a more in depth of the nature so as to understand the origin and how it uses a server to hold the data in use while it is the platform to initiate query i.e. the commands to get whatever information needed. SQL practical usage would be google forms and how the responses are presented in your mail or our bank details stored in the banks data base so when you go there and they access you account to get your statement. Your information is data and its relational how? your name and your email and your BVN are related and any of them could be used to bring up the rest. Also, when your look at hospitals that use modern data collection channels like excel or SQL as in the case, they store your name, date of birth, and some other details which are relational and analyzable. From here you can see two job opportunities with just professional or mastery level of two data based and analytical software.

There are two much but I would treat them in the next post but we can make a temporary stop here as I conclude that the facilitator has done well with exposure of knowledge and opportunity and I can see have the job market is not as saturated as many people see it and that just portrays the saying “knowledge is power”.

Happiness: A Unique Inside Job!
