Thinking in my head what I can consider spectacular, a moment of mastery , a classical, show of genius in football. It’s difficult to rule out the June 13,2014 FIFA World Cup match between Netherlands and Spain.
A true moment of class from the flying Dutchman, Robin Van Persie. Football fans around the world and pundits lauded the header goal from RVP with the match ending 5-1 in favour of the Netherlands. Even the opponent fans couldn’t hold back but applaud. Football headlines in the news spoke of the match but more of the striking header from RVP
The classical header was nominated for Puskas award 2014 (this is an annual prestigious award for outstanding goals in football) but the chill and the memory of the goal was beyond the nomination. The time to master improvisation and deliver when it matters. A turn up for important matches by the big players is a feat in its class.
Moments of class could be deliberate or improvised but ultimately it’s a display an art or craft that has been honed and mastered over time. Lagos Business School (LBS) is refining us for those moments. Like all masters, to be one, like gold, you need to pass through the furnace before you can truly shine and bring out the beauty. LBS is a place of molding and delivering masters in Business or life endeavors but it doesn’t come cheap.
Truth be told, I am exhausted for the lack of time and challenge in combining work with classes, assignments, webinars. Most times, I had to do the Office task first and spend the night to catch up with assignments and group meetings. This is it for every one running MEMBA at LBS , at least close to that for most. Life does not get easier, we outwit what it throws at us. The LBS requires dedication and commitment like any skill to be honed, it takes time and practice.
Time is the master of all skills so it appears the bargain is between the skills and capacity building in business administration and the time to spend with family, friends and self. Yes, self because internal denials are unavoidably required: less time to sleep or watch movies on Netflix for me but the journey seems to be at early stage. We have only gone for less than quarter and I wonder how the veterans before us were able to move ahead and complete the program.
Initially, I thought and concluded the toughest course at the LBS would be Analysis of Business Problem (ABP) and the others would be easier. To my surprise I soon realized that each course has its inherent challenge and devotion required to sail through. Operations Research and Marketing appeared very easy at first but like an iceberg, the depth below the eyes cover more than sight.
A long ride awaits all MEMBA 12 students. Each course is a new beginning.
To any MEMBA12 out there who is tired and willing to give up, roll up your sleeves once more, press on and remember your moment of class is being shaped by the LBS experience.
