I have learned a new language at LBS #MMBA5

As I continue my journey in this prestigious school I am ever fascinated as to the learning opportunities it possesses. I have been amazed as to the things I have learned as I never envisioned such knowledge would be plausible in the space of just five weeks. I have learned a new language! And NO! it is not Mandarin, or Igbo, or any conventional language. Lol, it is a machine language, it is a Structured Query Language (SQL) I have always been fascinated with computerized equipment and tech gurus I guess I am somewhat a guru lol, maybe not really. Hehe. As I sojourn on this LBS journey I have decided to not let my education background and proficiency in accounting debar me from learning in other fields. This decision has further encouraged my acceptance of this new language. SQL. What have I learned from this, what is SQL?  In the ever-evolving landscape of information technology, databases play a pivotal role in organizing, managing, and retrieving vast amounts of data. At the heart of this relational database management system (RDBMS) is a language that serves as its backbone: Structured Query Language, or SQL. SQL is not just a tool for programmers and database administrators; it is a universal language that empowers organizations to make informed decisions, streamline operations, and unlock the full potential of their data. is a standardized language used for managing and manipulating relational databases. Its simplicity and power have made it a cornerstone in the world of data management. SQL enables users to interact with databases through a set of commands, allowing them to perform tasks such as querying data, inserting new records, updating existing data, and deleting records. One of the primary reasons for SQL’s importance lies in its ability to provide a structured and efficient means of managing data. The relational model, which SQL adheres to, organizes data into tables with rows and columns, establishing relationships between these tables. This organization not only ensures data integrity but also facilitates the retrieval of information through complex queries. SQL’s query language allows users to extract specific data from databases, enabling them to make informed decisions based on the analysis of their information.

SQL is crucial in the realm of data analysis and business intelligence. As organizations amass vast volumes of data, the ability to derive meaningful insights becomes paramount. SQL queries allow users to filter, aggregate, and analyze data in various ways, providing valuable information for decision-making processes. Business analysts, data scientists, and decision-makers rely on SQL to transform raw data into actionable insights, ultimately driving strategic initiatives and improving overall organizational performance.

In the context of web development, SQL is instrumental in creating dynamic and interactive websites. Web applications often rely on databases to store and retrieve data. SQL statements embedded in web applications enable seamless communication with databases, allowing users to interact with dynamic content. This interaction enhances the user experience by delivering real-time, personalized information.

Moreover, SQL is a valuable skill for professionals in various fields. Whether in finance, healthcare, marketing, or any other industry, the ability to work with databases and leverage SQL is a sought-after skill. Proficiency in SQL opens doors to a wide range of career opportunities, as organizations increasingly recognize the importance of data-driven decision-making.

In conclusion, learning a new language has been very instrumental even in my field of study. I have been greatly encouraged. Although SQL is a data science tool and is taught in a somewhat unconventional manner at LBS, it has opened me up to appreciate different analytical tools in future at the Lagos Business School and I am excited as the facilitator has instructed that we would learn other tools like X, Python, Power BI amongst others. It would be a strenuous learning process but it poses to be a very instrumental one which I look forward to.
