This is my proof that I have been listening in class and making effort after my classes and putting in a lot of work behind the scenes. Todays class kicked off with this simple question-

What do you know about business assets?

Business assets refer to the resources that a company owns or controls, which have economic value and can also be used to generate revenue. These assets can include tangible items like buildings, equipments, inventory, and cash as well as intangible assets like intellectual property, patents, trademarks and goodwill. Managing and leveraging these assets effectively is crucial for the success of a business. This makes me want to become a little more specific because it’s the goal of every business to make profit amongst other goals, at this point I’ll like to know, is ‘financial assets’ a thing or is it just business assets or do business assets refer  to financial assets? Let’s find out….

What is financial assets?

 Financial assets are a type of business assets that represent a claim to future cash flows or a financial investment. They can include things like stocks, bonds, mutual funds, cash and bank deposits. These assets are typically held for the purpose of generating income or increasing wealth. They can be bought, sold, or traded on financial markets. Understanding and effectively managing financial assets is important for businesses to optimize their financial performance. I’d also like to know how I can optimize the benefits of financial assets and to do that I will like to know the types of financial assets and which of them comes to play in my line of business.

What are the types of financial assets?

There are various types of financial assets that businesses can invest in and they include:

  1. Stocks: These represent ownership in a company and can provide potential capital appreciation and dividends.
  2. Bonds: These are debt instruments issued by governments or corporations. Investors lend money and receive regular interest payments.
  3. Cash and cash equivalents: This includes physical currency, bank deposits, and short term investments that can be easily converted to cash.
  4. Mutual funds: These are investment vehicles that pool money from multiple investors to invest in a diversified portfolio of securities.
  5. Exchange-Traded funds (ETFs): Similar to mutual funds, ETFs track an index or a specific sector and can  be bought and sold on stock exchanges.
  6. Derivatives: These financial contracts derive their value from an underlying asset, such as options, futures, or swaps.
  7. Real Estate Investments Trusts (REITs): These are investment vehicles that own and manage income generating real estate properties.

These are just a few examples, and there are many other types of financial assets available. The choice of assets depends on the business’s investment objectives, risk tolerance, and financial strategy. It’s good to know which financial asset is good for your business, that’s one thing, knowing how to manage that investment is the cherry on top of the icing on that well served cake. How to manage financial assets?

To effectively manage financial assets, here are a few steps you can take:

  1. Set clear financial goals: Define your objectives, such as maximizing returns, preserving capital, or generating income. This will help guide your asset allocation and investment decisions.
  2. Diversify your portfolio: Spread your investments across different asset classes and sectors to reduce risk .Diversification can help protect your portfolio from market volatility.
  3. Conduct thorough research: Stay informed about the financial markets, economic trends, and individual investments. Analyze historical performance, evaluate risk factors, and consider professional advice if needed.
  4. Monitor and review regularly: Keep a close eye on your financial assets and review their performance periodically. This allows you to make adjustments when necessary.
