Learning and Relearning: How My MBA Journey Is Revealing New Lessons Every Day

Written by Boluwatife Sanwo · 1 min read >

Just four weeks into my MBA journey, and I’m already on a rollercoaster of learning and rediscovery. It’s not just about getting that degree; the MBA is turning out to be a fascinating ride, reshaping the way I see the business world.

This first semester has been a deep dive into different core subjects like finance, communications, data analytics and problem analysis/decision-making. It’s not just bookish knowledge; I’m learning how all these aspects of business fit together and how they play out in real life. I’m not an expert yet, but every class feels like a puzzle piece, slowly revealing a bigger picture. I leave each class with the assurance of having learned something new and the curiosity to learn even more,

The MBA isn’t just about textbooks; it’s about real-world problems. When we crack open case studies, it’s like stepping into the shoes of decision-makers. It’s making me rethink things I thought I knew, and that’s both challenging and exciting. It’s also been quite humbling, as I’m forced to confront the fact that I may not actually know everything and have a lot to learn about how decisions are made in the business world. On many days, I feel like an onion whose old layer is peeled away to reveal the new.

Working with my classmates is a big part of this journey. When we team up for cases and discussions, it feels like a melting pot of different jobs and backgrounds. Their perspectives make me see things in ways I had not before and there’s always something important that everyone brings to the table. It’s not just about my ideas; it’s about blending them with others to create something stronger. Outside my group, as I interact with different people on this journey, it’s like tapping into a gold mine of experiences. We share stories, and I can see how the lessons I’m learning now will shape my future. It’s not just about the present; it’s about building connections that will last.

Because I’m also working on the side and at two jobs in fact, I get to apply everything I’m learning in real-time, and it’s sharpened the way I review situations and analyse problems. Seeing the theories I learn in class come alive in a real business is always an eye-opening experience.

One thing I’ve learned for sure is that being in an MBA program isn’t just about grades. It’s about being flexible, adapting to changes, and learning fast. The business world moves at lightning speed, and I’m beginning to grasp the importance of keeping up. It’s a challenge, but that’s part of the adventure.

In these initial weeks, the MBA is becoming more than a degree for me. It’s about becoming someone who can navigate uncertainties, question the status quo, and emerge as a leader in the business world. I might be at the starting line, but I can already feel the shift in the way I think and learn. Every day brings a chance to unearth something new in this thrilling world of business, and I’m here for every moment of it.
