LBS will no doubt always be a community to long for because the packages the community comes with are like Santa Claus because there is always something to look out for, even beyond academics.
The career fair was an event to look forward to and exceeded all expectations. To put it in perspective, the Career Fair is an event organized by LBS where recruiters from top organizations across various industries come to hunt for talents within the MBA program.
The event started with presentations from a keynote speaker who gave a run down on kick-starting and maintaining a successful career. Shortly after, the full-time MBA21 cohort gave an exciting presentation on the global overview and an industry report of various industries in Nigeria. Their production cut across the Oil and gas sector, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector, Finance sector, ICT sector, and Power and Energy Sector, which was very interesting and brought to light the various current trends and issues inherent across multiple industry sectors of which possible solutions were proffered to the various problems.
What fascinated me the most about the event was that recruiters were more interested in selling their brand to see if it fit participants’ core values and goals. On the other hand, participants had their parts to play in, also selling themselves and demonstrating they are a talent worth having. However, more of the convincing came from the recruiters.
The event was eye-opening because I learned more about specific organizations’ core values, visions, and missions, which helped me measure how far they align with mine. I also got the opportunity to ask specific questions and get feedback that would need to be purview. Furthermore, contacts of participants and CVs were collected by recruiters, and participants were encouraged to follow up on the organization’s activities they were interested in.
Participating organizations gave out souvenirs to participants who visited their boots, which I must confess were very loaded. On a lighter note, it was like some participants went shopping at the end of the event.
Events like this are rare. Yes, there can be arguments that MBA schools organize events like this. Still, I can almost bet it will not be as intentional as that of LBS because all industry sectors were heavily represented, and in as much as this year’s career fair was targeted at the full-time MBA21 cohort of which information had it, that majority of participants where head hunted experiencing the event also an opportunity to network, meet new people and also engage industry players and also a chance to put oneself out there and look forward to further engagements.
As an MBA participant in LBS, you are indeed considered very privileged because of the endless opportunities, activities, bonds, and academic know-how embedded in the program. Aside from this, participants get personal attention and mentorship from faculties, and the program’s career unit, which assist and ensure participants are always attractive to recruiters. Indeed, what you ordered is what you will get at LBS.
