Career days are always filled with anticipation and excitement, but the recent one at Lagos Business School which was my first, surpassed all expectations. With an impressive lineup of companies and insightful presentations from MBA students, the event was a true celebration of knowledge, networking, and personal growth. It provided a platform for students to interact with esteemed companies, gain industry knowledge, and forge connections that could potentially shape their future careers.
Participating Companies: The career day brought together an impressive roster of companies, each renowned in their respective industries. Nestle, Lafarge, Cadbury, Air Peace, Promasidor, Afex, Interswitch, GB Foods, ISN Medical, BASF, Leadway Pensure, Tincan Terminal, Elektron Energy, McKinsey, Cardinal Stone, BCG, Sahel Consulting, Greater Washington, International Finance Corporation, Godrej, Sunfi, and many more graced the event with their presence. The diverse range of companies provided a unique opportunity for students to explore various sectors and gain valuable insights.
Insightful Presentations: It all began with Ayodeji Balogun, CEO of AFEX by giving a presentation on how to start and sustain a business career, referencing his business, AFEX. One of the highlights of the career day was the presence of MBA students from cohort “MBA 21” who are in their final year. These students shared their expertise on different sectors, shedding light on the economic aspects of the ICT sector, oil and gas sector, FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) sector, finance, power, and energy sector. Their presentations were not only informative but also inspiring, offering a glimpse into the dynamic and ever-evolving business landscape. Questions and comments were taken from the likes of Wassim ElHusseini, CEO of Nestle Nigeria.
After an engaging morning at the career day, we all needed a well-deserved break to refuel and recharge. The lunch spread was absolutely delicious! There was a wide variety of mouthwatering dishes to choose from. Trust me, I couldn’t resist trying a little bit of everything. The lunch break was not only a time to satisfy our hunger but also a chance to connect with fellow students and professionals in a more relaxed setting. It was a great opportunity to network and exchange ideas over a delightful meal.
Reconnecting with an Old Friend: Amidst the hustle and bustle of the career day, fate had a delightful surprise in store for me. I crossed paths with an old friend whom I hadn’t seen in a decade. The joy of reconnecting and reminiscing about old times added an extra layer of warmth to an already memorable day. It reminded me of the power of networks and the lasting connections we can forge throughout our professional journeys.
Lagos Business School and MMBA5 Cohort: Attending Lagos Business School is a privilege, and being part of the MMBA5 cohort adds an extra layer of excitement to the experience. The school’s commitment to excellence and fostering a vibrant community is evident in events like the career day. It serves as a testament to the school’s dedication to preparing students for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the business world.
In conclusion, the career day at Lagos Business School was an unforgettable experience that provided a wealth of knowledge, networking opportunities, and personal growth. From the impressive lineup of companies to the insightful presentations and the joy of reconnecting with an old friend, it was a day filled with inspiration and connections.
