It’s the eleventh month of the year and will soon be the time for carols, end of year parties and winter in some places. It will be Christmas soon; a lot of people’s best part of the year.

November is probably a jealous month as most things said and discussed in November, is about December. People have big plans, majority have planned to spend all they have saved all year in December because really what’s December if it’s not ‘detty’. A lot are getting set to travel home, others are booking flights to go far away from home to find new experiences and capture great moments. Another large set of people are already compiling photos and videos, looking back at the wonderful journey of the year, other are looking forward to a future without their bad habits and toxic traits- the season of ‘new year, new me’. The excitement continues to grow as the end of the year draws closer. Christmas, a period people usually refer to as a season of love.

Christmas is known to be a magical time of year when the air is filled with love and joy. It’s a season that reminds us all to be kind, compassionate, and caring towards one another. The twinkling lights, the sweet aroma of special delicacies, the red, white and green ribbons, the costumes, they all bring people closer together. Another opportunity to gather with family and friends, a chance for people to exchange heartfelt gifts and share laughter and stories. But beyond the material things, Christmas preaches a deeper love, a love that knows no boundaries. It’s a love that encourages us to reach out to those in need, to offer a helping hand, and to spread kindness wherever we go. Ever wondered why people usually respond with “…everyday is not Christmas…” when they’re not at their nicest? It is simply because Christmas is known to be a time for kind gestures and all manner of niceness.

Now let’s talk about the effect of this season on economy. Christmas stimulates the economy from all facets. It’s the season where the demand and supply of everything increases significantly. Businesses have more sales than they’ve had all year due to the season’s commercialization and overconsumption which oftentimes causes demand to exceed supply. Retailers drive sales furthermore with enticing marketing campaigns such as the Black Friday sales, having everyone feel the need to purchase something; whether as gifts or for self pleasure. A large number of people often run into debt, benefitting loan companies and the credit card industry. Other sectors that experience massive increase are food and transportation. Travels during this period increases by a very high percentage, retailers during this period also depend on the supply chain of shipping and distribution thereby causing a surge in transportation. More jobs are often being created during this period to meet up with the high demands of the season.

For some this season is majorly about it’s massive sales and profit, for some it’s a chance to relax and stay off work, for most people it’s all about giving and showing love. What’s does the season mean to you?
