GETTING INTO LBS AND MY LEARNING EXPERIENCE SO FAR

Written by Precious Arebun · 1 min read >

Enrolling at Lagos Business School (LBS) has been one of my finest choices this year. Getting into LBS wasn’t easy; between the application, entrance test and the interview, I nearly lost this dream; a story I will share in the future, but for now, let’s focus on the topic at hand.

My journey to LBS started a few months ago; I became more interested in LBS when I discovered that some key players, I follow closely in the world of business are alumni of this great institution, LBS. I quickly concluded that this school specializes in producing great men and women which I ultimately want to become.

When I finally received my acceptance letter, I was ecstatic because I knew it was the beginning of a new chapter in my life, one filled with purpose and hard work, of course!

Coming from a science background, I had never taken a business class before, so I had to make sure I attended the next intensive class in person because I attended the first intensive class virtually. The subjects covered in the classes were Analysis of Business Problems, Data Analytics, Corporate Financial Accounting, and Management Communication. I found it fascinating that these courses are connected. I observed that these courses are linked which I find interesting.

The seasoned facilitators’ outstanding teaching and presentation delivery have been nothing short of fantastic. It has also been beneficial for me to grasp these courses because they employ the case method; a mode of learning that I was not exposed to during my first degree; a style of learning I was not exposed to during my first degree, has also been very helpful in understanding learning these courses.

Dr Anibaba  Analysis of Business Problems Course facilitated by has helped me in making sound decisions without sentiments at my workplace. It has helped me in recent times to arrive at logical business conclusions which I struggled with before now.

Data analytics; tutored by Dr Okoye, a seasoned and very patient teacher has been very interesting so far. I lost count of the number of “Please Sir, can you come again Sir” I and my colleagues chorused in class and not a single time did he complain or hesitate to listen to us. Before taking this course, I thought I had tangible knowledge of Excel, all I can say is “Thank God I’m not where I used to be”.

I did not know about accounting but I’m happy to announce that I know Assets = Liabilities + Owner’s Equity amongst many other things! I am confident in the process and believe that before the end of this program, I will be a Financial Analyst; before then, please allow me to celebrate every milestone.

I am a better communicator, evidently seen in this write-up; I have also improved in the use of punctuation. Using the appropriate communication style has also helped me in crisis management at my workplace. As the saying goes nothing good comes easy or cheap, this best describes my journey so far with LBS and I am excited about all that this journey has to offer.

Happiness: A Unique Inside Job!
