Navigating the Numbers: Insights from The Brush Up (Part Two) #MMBA5

Written by Ikenna Eneje · 1 min read >

Continuing the journey into the Modular MBA program at Lagos Business School, Part Two of “The Brush Up” provided an in-depth exploration of corporate financial accounting and communication skills. In this blog post, I’ll share my experiences and insights gained during this phase of the preparatory program, shedding light on the challenges and valuable lessons learned.

Corporate financial accounting dominated a significant portion of The Brush Up period. The faculty dedicated time to break down this vast subject into its simplest forms, recognizing that many students were new to the intricate world of accounting. While not the most enjoyable experience, the sessions were undoubtedly insightful, mentally challenging, and interesting. The faculty’s approach aimed to engage every student, ensuring that we sailed together into the realm of numbers and calculations.

The faculty emphasized that the goal was not to turn us into accountants or consultants but to equip us with the minimum required knowledge to excel in this field. Personally, it felt like we covered a vast amount of ground in a relatively short period. I found myself immersed in crunching numbers, deciphering formulas, plotting graphs, and making sense of statements and data—an accomplishment that seemed daunting before The Brush Up.

Amongst us were individuals with professional backgrounds in accounting and consulting. I took the opportunity to listen attentively when they asked questions and made meaningful contributions during classes. This not only broadened my understanding but also provided insights from those with practical experience in the subject matter. Overall, I can confidently say that I was positively impacted by attending the corporate financial accounting brush-up classes.

The final brush-up class, focusing on communication skills, added a refreshing and enjoyable touch to the overall experience. We delved into the intricacies of communication, exploring errors, clauses, phrases, different punctuations, and their applications. The session addressed basic grammatical and spelling errors commonly made while preparing essays and other written content. To reinforce our learning, we engaged in a live task, completing and selecting correct sentences, making the entire experience both fun and educational.

In conclusion, The Brush Up sessions were a source of genuine enjoyment and immense learning. I commend the efforts of the faculty and applaud Lagos Business School for initiating such a valuable program. The preparatory phase significantly enhanced my readiness for the Modular MBA program, and I am confident that the foundation laid during The Brush Up will continue to benefit me throughout my educational journey.

As I look forward to the next phase of the MBA program, stay tuned for more insights and updates on my educational adventure at Lagos Business School!
