Let Me Tell You About LBS

Written by Ebele Ogbechie · 1 min read >

I came into my MBA program believing that it was meant for me, that it was the natural progression for my career. 3 weeks in and I can confidently say that my belief has been confirmed. It has been everything I hoped and imagined it would be, as far as the quality of academics is concerned. Although, I am still yet to feel the local content of the school as far as case studies and the learning of best business practices for an environment as peculiar as Nigeria are concerned (I am looking at you, Analysis of Business Problems). Hopefully I get to see more of that as time goes by, because that is what I really signed up for. Anyway, moving on…

So, I would like to think that I came into this program prepared for whatever comes my way, and yet here I am, on the verge of being overwhelmed. I mean this in a good way when I say that all my teachers have made a strong impression on me. It is obvious to see that every one of them is extremely knowledgeable in their respective fields. But the thing that has really struck me the most is the fact that they all have strong and confident personalities in their own unique way. One teacher is very intimidating, another is downright frightening, another one has a way of seducing you into thinking that his course is easy when it clearly is not. I am patiently waiting for the shoe to drop on that one.

As for the main MMBA 5 group chat, there was a lot going on there at first, but things have calmed down a bit. I still do not see any real cohesion in the group just yet though, but it is getting better. A lot of people outside my small group still feel like strangers to me and I am sure the same applies to a lot of other people in the class. I hope the intensive week will change that for the better. Hopefully…

Now for my favorite part of the MBA experience so far, my small group (MMBA 5 {Group 2}). Everyone is real and is contributing to the progress of the group. We have a great leader in David Oseghare and a lot of intelligent people from different backgrounds who interact with each other respectfully and with a strong sense of collaboration. From Valentine to Yusuf, Bolu to Rukayat, Mark Bem, Onyinye, Amarachi, Lateef, David and myself. Everyone has a role to play, and I do believe we play our roles quite well. I would take a bit of credit for creating the group and establishing some sense of familiarity early on. But from our first meeting onwards, David literally took the group’s leadership and ran with it, and everyone else has just fallen in line, with a genuine desire to bring value to the table in their own respective ways. So good luck to David. Good luck to everyone in Group 2. I believe we will thrive under the pressure of the MBA program. I am incredibly honored and proud to be a member of this group.
