My MBA Journey #MMBA5

Written by YUSUF Ibrahim · 2 min read >

As a modular student, the first 3 weeks of my MBA program was a significant transition in my life and finding the right balance between work as a Facility Maintenance Engineer and my academic commitments would be a crucial aspect of my journey. To ensure I could manage both effectively, I decided to make the most of the “brush-up” period provided by the program.

My early days included a full schedule of various work deliverables and school related activities. It was quite a challenge, but I was determined to stay on top of things. I employed a systematic approach that ensured I stayed organized and productive. I started by creating a list of weekly goals and objectives, which helped me stay focused and plan my day accordingly.

When I’m planning, I allocated time for work, study, and personal activities. I found that having a structured plan in place was the key to managing my responsibilities. It ensured that I didn’t neglect any aspect of my life, be it academic, professional, or personal.

As the program commenced, the first week focused on introducing me to my courses. It was an interesting week because I was eager to learn something new other than engineering. Some of the subjects piqued my interest immediately, while others aligned with my expectations. However, two courses stood out for me – “Business Problem Analysis” and “Financial Corporate Accounting.” The prospect of diving into real-world business problems and understanding the intricacies of corporate finance excited me. These were the subjects I eagerly anticipated delving into in the coming weeks.

Attending all the classes during the first week was a priority for me as It allowed me to understand the course structure, get a sense of the instructor’s teaching style, and connect with my fellow students. After completing the week, I reflected on my experience and realized that to excel in this program, I needed to make some adjustments to my approach.
I decided that it was imperative to study ahead of the classes. My idea is to be armed with a basic understanding of the topics the facilitator would be covering before the class. This proactive approach would not only help me engage more effectively in class discussions but also ensure that I can grasp the advanced concepts more easily. My aim is to be an active participant in the learning process which most class mandates participation.

As I prepared for the second week of the program, I integrated my initial knowledge gained in the first week and my brush-up period. This combination was an essential part of my strategy to excel academically while managing my work responsibilities. It became clear that learning didn’t stop when the class ended; it was a continuous process that extended into my daily life.
Applying my newly founded knowledge at work was another challenge I embraced. I believed that my role as a Facility Maintenance Engineer could benefit from the business-oriented perspectives I was gaining in the MBA program. It was essential for me to identify areas in my job where this knowledge could be directly applied to improve processes and decision-making.
In conclusion, the first three weeks of my MBA program have been a whirlwind of learning and adaptation. I’ve recognized the importance of balance, planning, and proactive learning. Looking ahead to the upcoming weeks, my goal is to perform even better in class and apply the knowledge gained in a practical context at my workplace. As a modular student, I am determined to make the most of this valuable opportunity to grow both academically and professionally. This journey is just beginning, and I am eager to see where it leads.

Happiness: A Unique Inside Job!
