This is LBS! –  “A Reality-Check word from Prof. Bongo Adi”

Written by Yemi Alesh · 1 min read >

Reflecting on this word used during data analytics lecture by Prof, with my head bended to the right and resting on the wall; The only thing going through my mind at that particular minute was ‘Should I apply for a refund?’ Because there is no way I can add learning Phython, R, SQL, Power Bi and Tableau to all the things I already have lined up.

After the class, I spent the next 10 minutes thinking about that word and it made me realize that I wasn’t expecting anything less from the school. I want to be a diamond but had an oversight about the transformation, achieving success is like the transformation of a diamond, forged under immense pressure and heat. I neglected the challenging processes that will refine and shape me into something truly valuable that can be called an alumni of Lagos Business School. I overlooked why I choose this school.

The past 2 weeks has been overwhelming, in between staying switched on to lead my team, spreadsheets, meetings, conference, calls with clients, conflict resolution, I could barely stay afloat in class and I completely forgot about the fact that I knew what I was getting myself into and I was (to some extent) prepared for this but I guess that it’s only natural for me to feel this way at the beginning. I have had to go back to my drawing board on how to balance work, life and studies. It doesn’t look easy but it has to be done, I have to make time management and prioritization my allies.

Embarking on the journey to pursue a MBA in LBS was a decision that I made to shape my career and life in remarkable ways. It’s a path filled with challenges, opportunities and personal growth. This wouldn’t just be a degree but a launchpad for my future. Armed with knowledge, a strong network, and a refined skill set, I will be better prepared to navigate the complex world of business and pursue my career aspirations. It’s an investment in myself and my future. It’s a rigorous, demanding, and rewarding pursuit that will open doors to new opportunities, leadership roles, and personal growth. This will equip me with tools to make a real impact in the world.

So, NO. I am not applying for a refund. I have started this journey and will definitely be putting in my best to see it through. Completing this is a significant achievement and a step toward a brighter and more successful future. I will stay motivated, stay focused and keep my eyes on the prize. I will finish this journey and let my influence be felt in the world.

If you are feeling overwhelmed right now, know that you are not alone, embrace the challenges and relish the journey – for it’s in the journey that you truly discover your potential. Remember, it’s not just about the destination; it’s about the transformation you will undergo along the way. The time, effort and resources you will be putting in will pay off in the long run. Keep at it, we do not give up around here.
