The daily struggle can be stressful and hectic for the nine-to-five workers. The constant pressure to meet KPI’s as well as family demands whether married or single can lead to neglect of our own self-care leading to susceptibility in the body system as well as ailments. Regardless, many people would put their job first before their wellbeing forgetting that health is wealth and only those who are healthy can be productive. It is important that people should take their self-care very seriously and prioritize a healthy work life balance as a lifestyle.

What is self-care?

Self-care entails making deliberate actions to maintain a healthy lifestyle which involve a routine care of one’s health. It comprises of making a conscious effort to prioritize one’s health which includes taking all the step necessary to manage stress and live healthy.

Benefits of maintaining self-care for a nine-to-five worker

1.    Sustains mental health: The practice of self-care such as exercise and healthy eating habit can sustain one’s mental health as against breakdown and fatigue due to excessive stress.

2.    Improve productivity: We are all used to the culture of working hard not smart. resulting to fatigue. A regular break from work and self-care routine can help boost productivity leading to better performance.

3.    Enhanced work life balance: A regular self-care rituals will eliminate unwanted distracters that might trigger poor self-care leading to undesirable events.

4.    Stress Management: An effective self-care management can eliminate stress and stress related ailments that emanates from lack of self-care.

Effective self-care Routine for nine-to-five workers

A nine-to-five work can be exhausting and challenging. However, it is paramount to practice and maintain a healthy work lifestyle. Below are some guidelines on how to prioritize self-care.

1. Set boundaries: It’s essential to set some boundaries within the workplace to establish a work life balance. This may include limiting the number of hours spent on the system or desk, taking regular breaks, prioritize your jobs and avoid working (receiving calls and responding to emails) after close of business.

2. Routine breaks: Routine work without a break is not healthy. When working, it is crucial to take regular breaks to avoid fatigue. It is important to take a walk round the office preemies, practicing breathing exercises, or simply stretching especially when the pattern of the job is sedentary.

3. Practice time management: Effective time management can help prioritize one’s daily tasks which will in turn reduces the hazards that comes with lack of orderliness.

4. Effective sleep hygiene: Getting a good night’s sleep is crucial for one’s mental health. Practice good sleep hygiene, such as establishing a bedtime routine, reducing screen time on the phone and keeping the bedroom free from any form of distractions. 

5. Regular Exercise: Routine exercise is an active way to reduce stress and improve healthy living. Integrate physical exercise into your daily routine, whether it is a morning run or evening walk can help foster a balance lifestyle.

6. Set aside time for loved ones: It’s important to prioritize personal life outside of work hours. Set aside time to socialize with friends and family, and other activities that is relaxing.

7. Take time off work: Take time off work to relax, go on vacation and recuperate by burning out accumulated stress. It is also paramount to visit a mental health support services for assistance when needed.

In conclusion, effective self-care routine will enhance productivity and fulfillment in one’s personal life and career. By setting out time to maintain a healthy self-care routine the chance of fatigue and unproductiveness will be eliminated.
