It has always been my dream to undertake an MBA program, or a program related to the social sciences particularly those related to economics and management. The snag was my busy work schedule and finding a reputable institution that has a good pedigree and international cloud. I needed a program that could blend with my work schedule and also provide me with the opportunity to study and learn in a renowned institution.
I finally found that the Lagos Business School (LBS) Modular Executive MBA program provided me with just the right combination of a reputable and world-class institution and the mode of teaching. The hybrid – online and the periodic one-week- mode of delivery of the MBA program perfectly suited my needs. The admission process was straightforward and easy to conclude. The GMAT-type admission test examination was quite intriguing and very intuitive. The exam truly assessed one’s analytical, cognitive, and comprehension skill sets. These skills are prerequisite requirements in undertaking the MBA program.
Prior to the commencement of the program, we had the orientation and brush-up sessions. The brush-up sessions were spot-on and important. It afforded me the opportunity to appreciate the nature and contents of the MBA courses.
So far, my learning has been of mixed feelings. I am excited and worried as well. Excited that I have finally commenced my MBA program after many years of delay and inaction. I am worried because of the workload and the volume of materials I need to read. The first semester courses have been arranged to aid our study in the MBA program. Courses like Management Communication (MC), Data Analytics (DA), the “Almighty” Analysis of Business Problems (ABP), and Corporate Financial Accounting (CFA) are the courses offered during this first semester. Management Communication is a very important course as it provides us with the unique foundation and skill sets on how to effectively communicate with stakeholders, both during the course program and in all our endeavours.
I could not attend the first intensive week in school, though I joined the classes virtually. I tried as much as possible to listen attentively and to take notes as appropriate but there were instances where I felt lost. Thank God, all the class sessions were recorded so I had the opportunity to listen to the class recordings to better understand and comprehend the delivered lectures. Due to my experience during the first intensive week, I made adequate plans to be in school during the second intensive week. The experience was astonishing. The energy, the atmosphere, the new faces, and the valuable insights were so overwhelming. I met and related so well with intelligent and very resourceful executives that left me with a profound sense of excitement for the journey ahead and a renewed commitment to greater prospects.
I am eagerly looking forward to the next intensive week in December. I believe the week will be a turning point in the MBA program as we shall be taking the examination on Corporate Financial Accounting (CFA) and Analysis of Business Problems (ABP). I must confess these courses are well-loaded and are to a larger extent, the keystone of the Modular Executive MBA program.
