Applying my MBA learnings to my work

Written by CHARLES AMAEFULA · 2 min read >

Having to start an MBA is one thing, but sustaining the steam is another thing to keep the going hot and more beneficial in the end.

I began my MBA programme a few months ago with some satisfaction that the long-awaited step has been taken. And now four months after, I am beginning to develop some aura within me which goes with some bit of confidence and joy.

My learnings have given me an awareness of trends around me including global happenings like the financial markets, in other economies both locally and internationally. The awareness of these market events makes me relate it to my everyday learnings in some of the courses I am studying, like Management communication, Data analytics, Corporate Financial Accounting and Analysis of Business Problems. On how the negative and positive turn of events will have an immense impact on revenue/sales etc.

My confidence to communicate has started to improve and from my hide and disappear attitude prior to beginning my MBA, I believe I am tilting gradually towards the positive side. I now boldly wait to speak with colleagues and friends to express my views. Making one’s point known is a plus in these few months and ensuring my voice is heard.

My MBA classmates have a diverse set of professional skills, with the interactions and learning from each other it is beginning to expand my knowledge in other areas outside of my training of being an accountant.

The immense networking opportunities are of great importance and benefit to me as a participant in the MBA programme. My networking opportunities will be expanded with many great learnings to follow.

The networking opportunities can be in taking up new challenges or venturing into another business as an entrepreneur.

The skill sets are just at their formation stage, which will mature before the end of the programme.

The potential for increased job opportunities cannot be overemphasized as doors will begin to open at each stage of the programme.

One of the greatest benefits of the programme is the better time management that it has afforded me; this is through regular planning on how to maximize my time and making each day fruitful.

Time management for me is the allocation of time for every event I hope to carry out daily and with time slots allotted to each task, while also ensuring that time robbers don’t render me unhappy of not achieving my set targets daily.

I really look forward to how the MBA programme will change my personal and professional evolution before and after my graduation.

Testimonies from graduates of the MBA programme of feeling stronger and the confidence that they are very qualified for the challenges ahead which may result in promotion or facing new challenges in other industries.

Also, it is notorious how some MBA graduates have explained their tremendous improvement that “came on them” with more work and responsibilities, with that conviction that once the MBA is concluded, all its graduate is at their best in the various areas of endeavors.

It does not mean that despite the best of personal and professional conditions as MBA graduates, they face obstacles which might be because of adaptation to change which may be a result of new experiences due to the new type of work that will come their way especially where a switch in the sector was made. The MBA programme often prepares one for contingency plans. The MBA degree will help one to deal with change, manage it, adapt to new scenarios, etc. The training received in the MBA programme is not without crisis and conflict management.

The programme is beginning to help me realize those things that require immediate action and what can be deferred:  that is, the choice of priorities for the decision-making process.
