I embarked on a journey to pursue a Master’s Degree at the Lagos Business School because I yearned for career advancement and growth. I desired a kind of growth that could be earned and not acquired on a platter of gold. Throughout the years, I have always been self-taught, utilizing online resources and attending free webinars and trainings. Other times, I sought help from senior colleagues. Unfortunately, many misunderstood the kind of advancement I desired, as my dreams were always bigger than what they expected. Therefore, they tended to mitigate my dreams, leaving me feeling uncertain about my career goals.
The kind of growth I yearned for is not controlled by the world’s economy. It is not restricted to any particular sector but is the kind of growth that could thrive in any sector I find myself working in. I refused to be restricted to the technology sector before I could thrive in my career. A friend of mine thought I was foolish not to continue pursuing my career in the technology sector. However, I was not, and it was later proven to be a wise choice.
I was ecstatic when my mentor advised me to pursue a Business Degree, with the option of pursuing my career in any sector of my interest. This advice gave me a sense of relief and joy, as I felt that I had finally found the perfect solution to my career dilemma. I had met people who decided to invest in me without expecting anything in return. However, some elements in the world were determined to distract and frustrate me from achieving my purpose because they believed that women were not meant to be independent. They wanted me to be relegated to the level of a mere blue-collar job worker’s wife, unable to afford any basic needs without a man’s help.
Despite these challenges, I remained determined to succeed and utilized all available resources. My learning experience at the Lagos Business School and interactions with people from different backgrounds have made me realize how much toxicity I had been exposed to. Although I try to avoid a lot of disputes by avoiding circumstances that put me on the spot. A lot of things I had learnt from my world of self-learning and discovery had been validated in school.
As each day passes with a lot of learning experiences from resources, tutorials, and faculty; I have come to attain an unimaginable level of growth already in semester one out of six. There has been a total change in my thought process, borne out of critical and analytical review of business cases, solely directed towards business growth and not manipulated toward individual selfish interest nor sabotaged for political reasons.
Furthermore, I am coming up with a lot of business ideas and processes in my next career phase, which would not have been attainable without the guidance of my mentors and the exposure of learning at the Lagos Business School.
In conclusion, pursuing a Masters Degree at Lagos Business School has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. It has opened doors of opportunities for me to explore and grow beyond what I thought was possible. I am doing more of analytical thinking, business analysis, and developing solutions that are solely focused on business growth. The experience has validated many of my self-learning experiences and has made me realize how much more I can achieve with the right mentorship and exposure.
