Why I am Doing the Lagos Business School MBA

Written by Seun Folorunso · 1 min read >

As a science-raised professional with the know-how of the technical aspects of business, I discovered a need to acquire management and business skills and enhance my existing soft skills to become a balanced professional and entrepreneur.

I am undergoing the MBA for the following reasons;

1. Expansion of Intellectual Capabilities – my previous educational attainments have always been that of theory without practical applications. I wanted a programme where I can cultivate thinking abilities to birth new innovations, change and improve my usual ways of doing things. I believe the MBA would empower me with critical, analytical, and abilities to solve real-life problems and become a great player in nation-building. I also look forward to learning how to lead and communicate better.

2. Expansion of Social and Professional Networks – Having been mentored by an LBS alumnus with an opportunity to participate in their cohort meetings, I believe the MBA programme would connect me to top professionals among the students and the faculties and diverse speakers at various programmes of the school. I would also be able to leverage the diverse alumni base of the school while looking forward to being inducted into the prestigious LBS Alumni membership.

3. Increase Earning Potentials – An MBA is fast becoming a major prerequisite for getting or earning a promotion to certain management roles in organisations. I was denied a management role at my current place of work because I did not have a master’s degree. I want to earn the MBA to make me qualify when a similar opportunity comes up in the future. Adding an MBA to my credentials would also enhance my potential for earning higher wages and create a pathway for possible future job switches using the newly acquired skills.

4. Entrepreneurship Gains – I am currently running a profitable startup and wanted an experience that would help my business to expand and scale. I believe that various entrepreneurial opportunities such as in-class learnings, mentorship, business contests and others will equip me with fresh and dynamic skills, perspectives and networks that would make me a better entrepreneur.

In conclusion, I believe the MBA will fast-track my personal, career, entrepreneurial and professional growth by learning new and honing existing skills, picking up new habits, and making new connections in preparation for a balanced life and better future.

Happiness: A Unique Inside Job!
