Human and Animal Behaviour

Written by Mariam · 1 min read >

The topic of animal behavior versus human behavior has been a subject of study for years. Many people believe that humans are vastly different from animals in terms of cognitive abilities, emotions and instincts. However, recent studies have shown that there are many similarities between the two, ranging from emotional responses, sensory perceptions to intellectual functioning.

Humans and animals share similar emotional responses. This means that both animals and humans can feel happy, sad, fearful and angry. For instance, it is not uncommon to see an animal display sadness when they lose a partner, just as humans display similar responses. This basic emotional response is not limited to specific animal groups, as different species show emotions in unique ways. For instance, dogs wag their tails when happy, while cats purr when content. This suggests that just as animals and humans share emotions, their emotional display is also unique.

Instinctual responses are another similarity between humans and animals. Instincts are hardwired into an animal’s system, enabling them to respond automatically to stimuli in their environment. Both animals and humans have distinctive instincts, and these instincts are essential to their survival. For example, animals in the wild instinctively know to find food sources and to avoid predators. Similarly, humans instinctively know how to respond to changes in our environment, such as avoiding danger, connecting with others and locating resources. Hence, the ability to distinguish essential environmental factors is proof of the similarity between human and animal instincts.

Humans and animals also share sense perceptions. This means that both humans and animals are capable of experiencing sensations such as sight, smell, touch, taste, and sound. These sense perceptions help them to navigate their environment and respond to stimuli. Animal’s sensory organs are often more developed than humans since they rely on these senses for survival. For instance, a dog’s sense of smell is much more developed than a human’s, which enables them to detect things humans would miss. Human’s senses are also capable of perceiving intricate details not evident to animals, suggesting that the two species have unique sensory experiences.

However, intellect cognition and the ability to make choices separate humans and animals. This means that animals cannot think logically, solve problems or adapt their behavior in response to new information. While animals instinctively know how to respond to changes in their environment, they are limited in terms of their ability to make choices creatively. In contrast, humans possess intelligence and are capable of adapting to new surroundings, analyzing information, and making decisions based on what is available. The ability to think uniquely is what separates humans from animals.

In conclusion, while humans and animals have noticeable differences, there are several similarities. Both share basic emotional and sensory responses, and exhibit instinctual responses that are hardwired into their system. This similarity does not end here; animals come in various species, and each has unique ways of displaying these similarities. However, humans’ ability to think intelligently sets them apart, allowing them to make choices that will determine their future actions. Therefore, while both animals and humans share many similarities, intelligence and decision-making are qualities that make humans a unique species.
