Goals can be defined as any specific and measurable targets that an individual or organization aims to achieve within a specific period of time.
Goals can be short term or long term and can be related to various areas such as personal growth, career development, finances, health, relationship and many more.
Goal setting is a powerful concept that is often overlooked in our day to day lives. It involves setting clear objectives and taking the appropriate steps to achieve them. - WRITE THEM DOWN: It has been proven that goals written by all parties involves have a much higher chances of been achieved than those that are just verbally discussed or thought about. Written goals also, should be periodically reviewed, either for assessment or for motivation and reminder.
- BE SPECIFIC: Goals are to be defined with clarity and precision. This includes what we want to achieve, how we want to achieve it and when we want to achieve them.
- MAKE THEM MEASURABLE: Ensuring that our goals are measurable and have specific metrics of success. This will help us track our progress and also make adjustments when necessary.
- ACHIEVABILITY: It is important to set goals that are challenging, but achievable. Goals that are too easy, may not be motivating, while too difficult goals will be demotivating too.
- MAKE THEM RELEVANT: Goals should be relevant to an organization or individuals overall vision and purpose.
- TIME-BOUND: Every goal should have a deadline; this will help stay focused and motivated.
