During our last ABP class, the guest lecture spoke so much about Bribery and Corruption. The discussion was so educating; it opened my eyes to so much to issues of life. We shared ideas on this topic for so long that two hours was up before we knew it. Today, we will go into details of what bribery and corruption entails. Bribery is the act of giving someone money or something appreciated in order to influence them to do something for you; it is a sort of inducement meant to influence some one or group of persons to act according to the way you want them to.
As the world is developing, we see how people are losing their principles too. Things like corruption and bribery have become so prevalent that almost everybody turns a blind eye to it. Bribery can be said to be the switching of cash, materials or goods. This exchange is done to get certain things done through illegal means or to fasten up the process. Although everyone opposes this concept, we all indulge in bribery of some kind. If you check everywhere around you in the world to find someone who has neither given or accepted bribe, you are extremely unlikely to succeed. Bribery is around us and is predominant in all the little and big things.
For example, if a parent or guardian wants their wards admitted to a good school, they offer a bribe to the school authorities. If one doesn’t have the ticket for traveling on a train, they bribe the train attendant to get the ticket. Likewise, on a higher level, people offer bribe to the police to cover their crimes. The police accept the bribe out of greed and sometimes fear. If we give it some thought, we will see that there is no area left untouched by bribery in our lives. Even the sweets and biscuits parents offer their children to get any work done is kind of a bribe. Its root source is from the house/home. children see their parents offer a bribe to the traffic police; they learn the same thing. Moreover, the never-ending chain of giving and accepting a bribe in the system makes it more common than you think.
Bribery has a damaging impact on the progress of a country. It delays the growth of the economy and the country. We have all declared our views about equality amongst all and about how we want equal prospects for people but bribery stops this from happening. When you bribe the school or college to offer admission to your ward, a much worthy applicant or candidate loses out on that seat. That candidate loses out because they cannot offer the amount for bribing the school management. Thus, we need to exterminate this problem totally to help the country and people flourish.
However, it is a difficult task to complete as most government officials heavily depends on bribery for their income. The people are equally accountable as they are the ones offering bribes in one form or the other. When the people themselves stop bribing the officials, the government will have no choice but to not indulge in this crime. Also, we must educate children from an early age about uprightness and morality. We must make them aware of the repercussions of giving or accepting the bribe. Thus, little by little, we can eradicate this practice if all of us come together.
We must collectively fight against this menace and begin practicing morality from home. Next time you get caught by the traffic wardens on the road, do not offer bribe to the official, instead, pay the whole fine. Similarly, set an example for your children so they do the same.
