The Sad Moments in our Cycling Club.

Written by Adeshina Lawal · 1 min read >

We all joined Cycling to exercise or exhibit our love for the sport not to be killed by unknown citizens that ride on the road with alternate mode of transport such cars, trucks, power bike, lorrey e.t.c.

Please note that : Cycology, Cyclotrons, PitStops are Cycling clubs for references below.

Recently, we realised that other road users will require detailed awareness with a lot of re-orientations such as road signs and easy rides beside or behind any two wheel cycling personnel in order to have an hitch free road usage relationship without or minimal accident.

In 2021, one of us was brutally stabbed by yet unknown unidentified person; promises to nab the killers were echoed at the memorial ride on the 15th September 2021. While hoping for the news to reveal who killed the humble man; the memories still lingers, another three gentlemen were attacked from the rear road side by a hit-and run driver, two survived while one dead. Who did this again on the 11th of December 2022? Nobody knows but it was in the news and widely spread that we lost a gem. “Healthy Living is NOT a Crime” as displayed during the farewell ride for him on the 24th December 2022.

These are not wandering lizards on the streets; these are human beings that are irreplaceable!!!

May we never experienced this gain; and we advise strongly that we should be safety alert when we ride; get support vehicles whenever we ride; don’t ride alone; we should pray before we go on a club ride and after; insure ourselves and bike, e.t.c, were some of the beautiful words of engagements.

Another one came; quietly took away a joyous member; taking away the happiness of his family and members on Wednesday 5th April 2023 after dealing with Cycology and Pitstop Lagos. He had a beautiful heart that won’t let you stay off the track; an enabler and cyclist enthusiast; a quick fixer to ensure the pedals revolves, an encourager, a forthright member.

Anyone can be a victim. So what’s next; what should we do differently; what should we not do at all? Lessons were learnt in all accidents; we filter, we digest and forget and back on the saddle; we don’t want to be stopped because we carry no arms; we hate nobody; we love what we do, we love the freedom on two wheels; we love the connectivity, the network is awesome. We don’t want to be stopped!!!

Friends, families, passersby, new entries are saying why the ride ‘sef’ if you are going to be killed. Don’t hang your bikes yet; don’t get turned mind, don’t be discouraged. We can collectively STOP the Killers through the initiatives of members who had contributed on the next steps after loss of one of us recently. The stakeholders have tuned to actions. These are highly commendable in this grieve period due to the loss of a member.

Therefore, our condolence go all the family of deceased and children they all left behind this ugly world. May God Almighty sustain them through this life?

“All Cycler Lives Matters” so much all there family, relatives, friends but Almighty knows best. May their soul rest peacefully; while we ride again tomorrow for one of us as a symbol of respect and remembrance.

Happiness: A Unique Inside Job!
