WHY I’M TAKING THE MBA PROGRAMME

Written by Precious Nwuba · 1 min read >

Had my first degree about seven years ago, from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-ife, Bsc. Food Engineering. During my undergraduate internships (SIWES) I worked at Ile-Oluji cocoa processing industry Ondo state, and Dangote sugar refinery Apapa, Lagos. I’ve always taught I’ll further more in my discipline,  have a master’s degree in process engineering or agricultural engineering from a prestigious institution abroad, get to work in a food processing company and develop my career. Just my thoughts and wishes after graduating from OAU. Right before going for my NYSC, I got a job at Roxfort travels and tours I was in the marketing section trying to reach out to potential customers for the company and I was also in charge of their social media accounts.

I currently work as the branch manager in Ondo and I run some other business too at the side (side hustle), the company is doing fine in terms of operations and I think I was doing well too in managing the company and my staffs but there’s always an emptiness and a gap I feel I should fill, I can’t be idle sit back and not acquire more knowledge, and I started listing out my options; should I get an Msc in Process Engineering like I wanted to, I’ll probably have to leave my current job and every other thing I’m doing right now to travel abroad, do I want to settle down there or come back to Nigeria after my program and seek a job in a food processing company here,  time is ticking and the days go by. Finally, I decided I can’t leave, I just can’t leave, at least not now. So in quest for knowledge what should I do, I currently have a job and some side business, why not get an MBA and equip yourself with all the necessary skills and knowledge you need to run a successful business. I would love to build my business leadership skills as well as a professional network.  The thought makes sense to me and I spent days online trying to surf the internet for a reputable institution I can get my MBA degree. A lot of universities including my alma mater run an MBA program, i set some criteria and my top priority was good to the best business school in the country since I can’t travel out for now, then I can’t settle for less. I kept searching “best business school in Nigeria”, “top 10 business school in Nigeria” whichever way I tweak my search, Lagos business school always come first.  Then I decided to proceed to the school’s website, I saw the accreditations, some images of the school environment and I read some reviews/feedback of some alumni. Another criteria is looking for a part-time programme with some flexibility, I can’t actively participate in a full time programme because of work and my other activities. I saw the Modular progamme, and I studied it perfectly to see if it suit my schedule, I proceeded to start my application and I’m glad to be here today.

Happiness: A Unique Inside Job!
