ON MAKING SMART DECISIONS
Decision making can be simply put as the process of making choices by identifying a decision, gathering information and data, and assessing alternatives to help make the best resolution given the available data.
Decisions are key to every business. The success or failure of any organization is majorly dependent on the quality of the decisions that are being made.
Procrastinations in decision making process in an organization can also reflect on it’s performance.
Making decisions in the shortest of time and actually putting in the necessary required actions to achieving a set out goal is purely the difference between success and failure in any and every areas of life, including our personal lives.
As humans oftentimes we have the natural tendency of being reluctant when it comes to major decisions making especially those that might affect our relationships with others in our lives.
But having the courage to making major decisions and doing so without procrastination cannot be over emphasised.
Even when we do most times we don’t tend to do the very best we could, either as a result of the limited availability of data available to us or due to other forms human bias.
Some of the steps that can be taken to make smart and timely decisions are listed below:
- BEING MORE INTENTIONAL IN OUR THINKING: As human we have the tendency of being distracted, not just physically, but sometimes even mentally we can struggle with maintaining concentration as other thoughts or physical distractions sets in during our thought process.
Building the habit of being more intentional in our thinking and being more disciplined following through with our thoughts can be very vital.
We can come up with different ways of making sure that we don’t get distracted in your thoughts especially while in the process of making an important decision.
- HAVING QUALITY DATA: One other key factors of every decision, is the quality of the data.
Even more important than comparatively the quality of the materials being the key to that of every construction project.
The quality of data available to a decision make, can make or mar the quality of the outcome of the decision.
Therefore, making sure that we have the best possible data before us while making a major decision both in business and in our personal lives is of utmost importance.
- HUMAN BIAS: Dealing with or taking time to understand our own personal weakness as humans in terms of bias can make a great difference to the quality of the decision we make.
Sometimes, as humans we tend to live in denial to our bias. Not everyone is aware of their biases during decision making, some actually tend to live in denial.
It will be difficult for someone in position of authority to actually say that the reason chose one applicant over an other is because of their similarity in religion, race, Alma mater, or any other common similarity they possess over the other common applicant.
6Oftentimes, we humans are not even aware of our unethical we are. We often believe we are more ethical than we actually are. Which if left unattended to, might mean /*- us making poorer decisions that we are truly capable of.
In other not to make this singular post so lengthy, I will be limiting my points to be above mentioned points.
I sincerely hope, that we will be more intentional and put in our very best to our every decisions.
