TIME MANAGEMENT
One of the introductory classes we had during our brush ups for our MBA program is on TIME MANAGEMENT. A course that is a core of everything ease in life.
TIME, can be simply defined as “the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole”. Time Can be argued to be called “life” itself, as human lives is nothing but the summary of everyones life from the time of birth till death. It is something that every human has in limited supply, no matter how long one tend to live.
It is also, one of the things in life humans regardless of advancements in science and technology does not have control over.
Time management is simply the effective usage of ones time, to achieve optimal results in any chosen goal or in every aspect of life.
Someone who gets to have a decent mastery of time management can be already seen as a great achiever, because in it lies everything else.
During our brush class we were taught a time management technique that is by dividing every give activity into four quadrants.

From the above table
QAUDRANT 1: This is the habit of focusing on unending crisis, pressing problems, deadline driven projects and related activities as a way of life.
QUADRANT 2: On the hand is the act of focusing on relationship building with important people in our lives, finding new opportunities, long-term planning, preventive activities, personal growth, recreation etcs.
QAUDRANT 3: Are about activities that are focused on interruptions, such as calls, emails, other impromto activities in our daily lives that are actually of low importants to us, but just appears pressing.
QAUDRANT 4: Are focused on trivia, time wasters, and other things that can be momentarily pleasing and often time wasters.
From the above tables, we were taught to focus our daily activities most on those on the second quadrant as they are most important and are of optimal use of our time.
Learning and maintaining the habit of focusing on important, but seemingly not urgent things is one way of being not just great leaders, but if consistently practiced can make a fulfilling and happy life.
Over the cause of the study, we got to see time management from a very different perspective and as leaders we have to be more intentional in prioritizing our time otherwise we will be as the risk of moving from one crisis solving to another which might seem busy at the moment, but in the long run is a very ineffective way to live.
I hope this post helps us become better time manager…. till my next post.
