In today’s data-driven world, data analytics play an increasingly key role in understanding phenomena and making informed decisions. As a course, data analytics provides students with the tools necessary to collect, analyse, and interpret data using quantitative techniques. With its emphasis on critical thinking and problem-solving, data analytics helps students develop valuable skills that are highly sought after by today’s employers. Furthermore, studying data analytics equips students with the ability to navigate and make sense of the vast amount of data we meet on a daily basis, whether it be in business, healthcare, social sciences or beyond.
By taking a course, students learn to apply mathematical and computational algorithms to analyze complex data sets. They gain an understanding of probability theory, hypothesis testing, multivariate analysis and regression analysis. Moreover, studying data analytics prepares students for a wide range of career paths such as data analyst, market researcher, statistician, or financial analyst. Overall, it is a highly valuable course that equips students with the analytical and critical thinking skills necessary to navigate our data-driven world.
In Lagos Business School, the data analytics course is a crucial part of various programs such as the MBA, Executive Education, and MSc in Business Analytics. I was apprehensive about the course, but the facilitators here have been very supportive and engaging. Through this course, I am gaining a deeper appreciation of the power and beauty of data analytics and how it can help me achieve my personal and professional goals.
I am now going to describe my personal journey with this course.
Data Analytics: The mere word used to send shivers down my spine just like Further Mathematics did back in High School. The course covers topics such as probability, descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, hypothesis testing, correlation, regression and more. It also involves using a software to perform various statistical tests and procedures. It sounded like a nightmare to me.
Coming to face it as a course here, I knew I could not run from it any longer; I decided to face my fears and challenge myself. I decided to give data analytics a chance and see if I could learn something from it.
It was not as bad as I thought it would be. In fact, it has been quite interesting and fun.
How did that happen? Well, let me tell you some of the things that have helped me along the way:
– I am equipped with great Facilitators. My facilitators are very knowledgeable and passionate about statistics. They explained the concepts clearly and gave us plenty of examples and exercises to practice. They also made the lectures engaging and interactive, using humor, stories and real-world applications.
– I have a supportive group of classmates. We formed a study group and meet regularly to review the material and do homework assignments. We have helped each other out with doubts, difficulties and feedback. We have also motivated each other to keep going and not give up.
Data Analytics is no longer my enemy, but my friend. Data Analytics is no longer a nightmare, but a dream.
And you know what? You can do it too.
